Who would you keep?

Post by cprice12 »

If you were GM and you were going to blow up this team in the offseason...

You have to keep eight forwards and four defensemen from this roster...no more, no less.

Who do you keep?

Oshie, Pietrangelo, Perron, Steen, Polak, Backes... in that order.

Maybe EJ, although I'm running out of patience with him.

The rest can go to hell. **** em all.

And actually, I say trade anyone for the right guy.

Everyone will probably have 5 of the 6 same fwd and all same D:
Peron, Backes, Berglund, Oshie, Steen, McDonald
Petro, EJ, and Polak.
But, no one is untouchable for the right trade. You just don't dump any of these.

You're probably right...so I changed it to 8 forwards and 4 defensemen...might be more interesting.

Oshie, Perron, Backes, Steen, McDonald, D'Agostini, Sobotka, Berglund...but I'm on the fence with Berglund.

Forwards: Backes, Steen, Oshie, Perron, McDonald, Berglund*

Defensemen: EJ, Pietro, Polak/Brewer**

*I'm not going to be terribly upset if he leaves. But, of the rest of the forwards, I think he has the most legitimate shot of turning into an impact player.

** I want to keep both. If I have to let one go, I trade him in March. Especially Brewer cuz he's not a RFA.

That's all. If anyone else goes, as long as its for the right price, I couldn't care less.

EDIT: If Ian Cole is included in this, I would keep him too.

I watch other teams and there are plenty of untouchable players in the league.

None of them are presently wearing the Bluenote.

I like a lot of the guys on this team, but they're just not that good at teh hockies as a collective.

I agree. Saying Oshie is untouchable in St. Louis is like saying David Moss is untouchable in Calgary or Dan Cleary is untouchable in Detroit. Oshie plays a role, an important role, but that's what he is- a role player. He is not a dynamic all-star.

My last post probably belongs in the other thread (the one talking specifically about Oshie), but I guess it works here. If anyone doesn't follow, go through the Blues Discussion and read every other post made ever. It will help clarify things.

You guys keep referring to Oshie's value based on his on ice play only.
More than any other player on this roster, he is worth way more to this organization than just his value on the ice. He will be making this organization a lot of money. Fans come to see him, he sells jerseys, he is an extremely valuable commodity based on his popularity alone. Even if management wanted to trade him, ownership wouldn't let it happen unless we got a ton in return...and by a ton, I mean an elite scorer...and that isn't going to happen, so therefore...he's untouchable.

The reason Oshie is untouchable is because we won't get what we want in return for him. If I were GM, I'd listen to offers for him. But, I would be floored if any team made an offer that I was willing to take. If they did, I would wonder what they were trying to pull.

How does one "blow up" a team by keeping 12 of 18 dressed players?

Part of me, with this recent frustration, almost wants to say "f*ck it, let's try this again" and just trade everyone and rebuild again

If I were blowing up the team this offseason, I'd probably only leave Oshie, Perron, EJ and Petro. Maybe Backes & Polak too, depending on the offers I could get. Leave the prospects as is (that is, those that have not been poisoned yet by wearing the bluenote. Too harsh? )

Blow up this unabletoscore offense and restructure the defense. At least if we bombed out next season, we'd be in the running for first overall again and then I would 100% draft whoever the top goal scorer in the draft was. Since it apparently can't happen through trade, we resort to the draft a la Blackhawks. Or overpaying your ass off for the once every other year scorer (e.g. Kovalchuk).

Either way, the status quo this offseason is not acceptable. Tried that two offseasons in a row now and it hasn't worked. Even if we make the playoffs this year (IF), it's obvious to everyone now, or should be, that this team cannot stay as it is and seriously hope to make a Cup run. It can't.

And my patience with Berglund and Boyes is totally shot.

I'm on the fence about McDonald. Obviously a quality member of the team, but he's 33 or 34. I just think there's too much potential in Berglund to give up on him right now.

Getting six new players in one offseason is a huge change.

Okay, then let's nuclear blitzkrieg this team...

I kid, I guess. Stay the course, even though our course is longer than other teams' and essentially devoid of offensive creativity and team defensive commitment. You build through the draft and eventually things will look up... right?
