His tweet: I'm reporting to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Dave Checketts is bowing out and selling his shares of the Blues; check STLtoday.com soon

And thus will end one of the most colossal fails of ownership in Blues history. And that's saying something. What a waste of time.

Yeah, because he's made a whole bunch of money off of this operation.

His operation was in red almost every year.

My guess is that he couldn't secure an investor that would allow him to remain the 'face' of the franchise. Once he looked and looked, he did what was best for the franchise and sold to someone who had the financial means to pick up where he left off.

The article on STLToday mentions that he'll remain until they find a buyer and that 100% of the team is still for sale.

Yeah, I posted that before that came out. Not a surprise at all. First report I heard was that he sold the team. But turns out he was selling. Still...as long as the team stays in St. Louis, I just hope it goes to a dedicated owner.

I agree - unless the rumor mill has them moving here to Portland, OR.

:P

You guys got the Timbers. Be happy with that. Unless you want to send them our way. I'm probably one of the only board members who wants a soccer team in St. Lou.

I am not sure why everyone thinks Dave was/is such a poor owner.

The team is better today than it was when he bought it. There are plenty of butts in the seats. Ticket prices are still very good by league standards.

I know we don't have a high payroll, but I am not sure there have been too many players worth plunking down the cash for in light of where the team is in its development.

From what I understand is he's getting out of the way so the team (and the fans) can have a stable owner and can continue to build the payroll and on ice product.

None of that sounds bad to me.

Here is a fun doomsday fact: The lease that keeps the Blues in St. Louis ran only through the 2010-2011 season.

(I do not believe the team would actually move)

I did not know that - Can you say Kansas City here we come? Cause our new arena has a sweet lease all ready to rock and roll.

I think the non-relocation restriction, first passed on to Dollar Bill, and then passed on to Checketts group may now be at an end.

Tower could cash in by selling this team to Canada.

Amen. You said what I wanted to say in a much better way than I could have said it. Dave rescued this team from the absolute pits and brought it to respectability. 36 straight sellouts. Much more talent on the team than when he bought it. It takes awhile to build a contender. I'm not sure why there are some that can't see that.

Maybe Janssen and McRae are secretly multi-millionaires

Have we seen any sign with the past two owners that a hockey team can be profitable in St. Louis? Even with a salary cap for which we lost an entire season, no one wants a team. I'm thinking that a move is more likely than people care to admit.

According to the Kerber interview with Checketts that was just broadcast on KMOX the team and building are being sold together or are some sort of package deal.

We have sold out every game this season despite a terrible team. It makes no sense to move them.

I also think that checketts gets a worse rap than he deserves. Hut if we get somebody who can spend some money, this could be great.
