He beat out Chara at +33 and Weber at +7.

Seems like Chara may have been the better recipient. Thoughts?

Yeah, kind of a joke. Now if he wins it next year, it'll be a total joke.

This award belonged to Chara.

I know they're not technically supposed to be considering any playoff performance with these awards...

But C'MON!

My guess is that when the ballots were cast, people were like, "Surely this is Lidstrom's last year! We've gotta give it to him!"

Fail.

Alright, this may be a dumb question I don't know. What the heck is with the baby trophies?

When they announce it, they hand out this little piss-ant little-leaguer thing...

And then only later do you pose with the big dog...

I know the original Hart Trophy is retired in the hockey hall of fame but I didn't think it was like the Stanley Cup where there was only one of them. I thought the winner got a copy every year...? :|

Apparently not...

No, the players get to keep the mini-trophies but not the full sized trophies. I remember when Chelios broke the mini-Norris right on stage in 92 or 93.

The cool thing is that the mini trophies are still made with the real gold, silver, etc. Same thing essentially, just scaled down.

I've got bigger car show trophies.

If you find the pictures of Mario Lemieux's office all of his trophies are in cased in there, and those guys aren't tiny.

Really? There wasn't a SINGLE defenseman in the League who performed better than Lidstrom this year? Not a SINGLE one?

The NHL takes their trophies very serious. And if you try to make love to the Jack Adams trophy, or hug and kiss the glass casing to the trophy, you will be ejected from the NHL Draft.

And I have the photos to prove it.
