Today's the day. Starts at 11 am. I don't really see the Blues making a huge splash (as in, I won't be surprised if Brad Richards doesn't come here), but they may add a few pieces. We shall see.

They have to add a few pieces to get to the cap floor. Something will happen. The Blues need like 6 million dollars worth of cap hit just to start the year.

They have 8 mill to spend on D'Ags, Reaves, Bishop, a FA froward, and a FA Defenseman,

Figure they give Matt 1.8 today, Reaves 800,000, Bishop 1.1, That leaves about 4.3 mill to spend on a free agent forward and a free agent defenseman.

10:35 a.m. And, just like that, we have our first signing of the day. Maybe I should complain about things being slow more often. In a story first reported by Nick Kypreos and then confirmed by Craig Custance of The Sporting News, Vancouver has signed defenseman Sami Salo to a one-year deal for $2 million. Salo played in just 27 games last season for the Canucks, but was solid in team's run to Stanley cup Final where he played in 21 games and had 5 points.

Patrick Eaves re-signs with Detroit, 3 years. James Wisniewski (sp?) signed a 6 yr, 33 million dollar deal with Columbus. Columbus is making some moves this year.

There seems to be some growing interest in the Blues' front office in signing one of either Jamie Langenbrunner or Tomas Fleischmann.

Fleischmann's best season came in 2009-10 with Washington, where he tallied 23 goals and 28 assists in 69 games played.

From "NickBoston" on hockeybuzz. I saw Fleischmann's name on the FA list and thought he could be a steal of a signing. While his health is certainly an issue, if that were to clear up you could get the 21 points in 22 games Fleischmann that Colorado saw. His health is also a bargaining chip for the team that signs him, maybe driving his price down a bit. We aren't likely to spend big, but we could afford this guy who is relatively young and would certainly be an offensive upgrade for the team.

I agree. Fleischmann is a guy that I'd love to see in the Note. Belanger is interesting too. He's a bit older, but we're not going after top line guys. Belanger could add something in a 3rd/4th line role.

There goes that dream. I thought Hejda was the ultimate answer to what we were looking for, just about 1 mill too expensive.
