It appears the Winnipeg Jets may be playing in the Central Division of the Western Conference after next season.
According to the Grand Rapids Press, Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leipold said as much on Monday, telling Minneapolis radio station, KFAN that the Wild would be playing in the Central Division against the Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars and possibly the Columbus Blue Jackets. He made no mention of the Detroit Red Wings, which is the team most likely to move the Eastern Conference to accomodate the Jets' move.
The NHL Board of Governors are scheduled to meet in December to resume talks of realignment. The Jets will play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference this season, joining the Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers.
Looks like some of you might get your wish- they might be scrapping the three divisions to a conference and rolling with two...

Maybe he just absent-mindedly forgot to mention us. Because you're right, there's nowhere else for the Blues to go.
And let's face it, we're pretty forgettable...

If that happens and the Blues are not in that division, they are going to get screwed and stuck in some bullshit "Western Division" with assloads of travel 3/4ths of the league doesn't have to deal with.
I can't see the league agreeing to breakup the Blues/Blackhawks rivalry. Way too much history there, including the fact the Blackhawks owner helped finance the existence of the Blues when they were originally formed.

They just overlooked The Blues. Why would they leave Nashville and Columbus and put Dallas into The Central Division and Western Conference, and then move St. Louis to The Eastern Conference or The Pacific Division?
That is Terrible-moving Detroit to The East. Columbus is farther east, and, more importantly, then there would be only ONE of "The Original 6" teams left in The West. They need to keep the Chicago/Detroit and St. Louis/Detroit rivalries intact.
And you can't tell by reading the article who exactly is of the opinion that the Red Wings are the "most likely team" to go to the east. If it's the writer then that's some pretty bad news reporting because he just waves it off like a foregone conclusion that the Red Wings would be back in the East. Not necessarily, and I hope the Dead Things don't get moved out.

Red Wings belonging to the East has always been an issue. Being in the Western Conference, they are the only team out of their timezone.

There not, but if you look on a map Columbus is just a little farther east than Detroit.

The rumours I've seen from Red Wings fans and some Detroit-centric reports indicate the Red Wings owner wasn't happy when the lockout ended and got some "off the record" concessions that Detroit would eventually be moved to the Eastern Conference when/if other teams were bought/moved.

After getting shit on by them for about 15 years now, I at least want the chance to shit on them for a while, however slim that chance might be.
But if we were in opposite conferences we'd have a chance to trump all those years of getting beat on by the Wings by beating them in the Stanley Cup Final. That will never, ever, ever, ever, ever happen, but the possibility to do so would be nice.

I don't think I would be able to handle losing to Detroit in the Cup Finals. Something like that might drive me to become a suicide bomber or something.

Ugh. No kidding.
However...beating them on the biggest stage may be the only way for the previous playoff wounds vs. Detroit to finally heal.
