Apparently the plane was banned from flying to Europe (but not Belarus) due to safety concerns.

Every time I come across this on the internet, I can't do anything for like 10 minutes because it makes me so sad.

It's almost not real.....I men there is no way this stuff happens anymore. How can they be that irresponsible with their upkeep of their planes?

It's Russia. You can buy your way into, and out of, anything. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.
Re: KHL's Lokomotiv Involved in Plane Crash - Demitra on board
I will always remember Demitra as the new guy that did not know a lick of English.
I want to share the first time I ever met him with all of you. And yes, I stole this from the front page
Shortly after being traded to St. Louis, Demitra and two former teammates (Craig Conroy and Chris Pronger) attended a hockey card tradeshow at America’s Center in downtown St. Louis. As an early teenager, I was very nervous to meet Demitra. When I arrived at his table, he seemed almost as nervous as me. As an avid hockey card collector, I had Demitra’s rookie card from one of his few games as a Senator. I stuck the card out without saying anything and he looked at me and gave me a blank stare. At that time, Demitra knew hardly any English. He just said “hi” and looked down at the card. He then began laughing and said, “Aha! Ottawa Senator!” He gladly signed the card and stuck his hand out to shake mine. I happily obliged and thanked him. He smiled back and said, “Happy to meet you. Go Blues!”
While this may not seem like anything on the outside, it meant a lot to me. He was so happy to meet fans. Even though he barely knew any English, he still tried very hard to make small talk with me.

Re: KHL's Lokomotiv Involved in Plane Crash - Demitra on board
One of the neatest things I always liked about Demitra was the exit he used, yes it sounds small an petty, but back in the day only the stars used the back ramp 'exit' Al, Brett, Pronger, Fuhr....etc. Demitra was clearly of their 'level' of stardom at the time, but he always used the 'other' exit where the fans were lined up night after night. Sure there were nights where he was in a hurry and didn't sign, but he was always very nice and it was never 'below' him to use the exit with the 'lesser' players.

I hope the Blues will do something classy and honor his number, not necessarily retire it, maybe something like Bobby Plager.

Tom Casey from ESPN 101 tweeted today (and I happen to agree) that he hopes the Blues wear a patch this year with the #38 and both Pavol's and Korolev's initials (Korolev wore 38 with the Blues, as well). I like that idea.philco_3 wrote:I hope the Blues will do something classy and honor his number, not necessarily retire it, maybe something like Bobby Plager.

I think that is a really classy idea. A patch or a sticker or whatever.....just something to show the organizations reverence.

The Blues have always been a class organization when it comes to honoring players.

Yeah, this is shocking for sure. I still can't believe it. Agree that the Blues should (and will) do something too.

To everyone else, great stories about Demitra. It's stories like the ones that ProngerBlues and DaDitka told that should be remembered.

PHENOMENAL idea. This puts it into perspective...dmiles2186 wrote:Tom Casey from ESPN 101 tweeted today (and I happen to agree) that he hopes the Blues wear a patch this year with the #38 and both Pavol's and Korolev's initials (Korolev wore 38 with the Blues, as well). Pavol Demitra is fifth on the Blues' all-time points list. And he did it in 8 seasons. He's one point shy of point per game as a Blue (393 pts in 394 games).
And he's going to stay there a while too because nobody currently in the bluenote is even close.
