Amway to sponsor Red Wings (weirder than you think)

The Amway partnership marks the first time in the Wings’ 86-year history that the NHL organization will have a presenting sponsor, with the Amway logo seen almost as prominently as the Winged Wheel in all team advertising, branding and marketing materials.
This is their new, official logo:

No joke.

I assume it won't appear on the jerseys though.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :detsucks:

I kinda want it to appear on the jerseys just for extra humiliation, but that would set a pretty terrible precedent for other teams to follow.

Yeah...advertising isn't alowed on jerseys. But apparently, everywhere else it is used for marketing & branding purposes, it's going to have that stupid Amway logo on there.

What's funny is that Amway is pretty much a pyramid scheme company. Very controversial and shady business practices.

Figures.

As much fun as it is to point at the Wings and laugh about this, I fear it won't be too long before every team starts doing it and I don't like that one bit.

I used to work with a guy who sold Amway stuff. He had the products all over his office...it was kinda crazy. He was a nice guy, but he would always try to sign everyone up.

And it's also worth noting that the Van Andel and DeVos families in Grand Rapids either founded, or had a lot to do with the founding, of Amway. They own the Grand Rapids Griffins hockey team, which is Detroit's farm team. They own pretty much everything in Grand Rapids.

I now have two companies to never buy from, Little Ceasars and Amway. I've not had any Little Ceasars pizza in a long time, I won't patronize with anything Redwing, except the boots. :detsucks:

Just heard this rumor...the Blues will have a main sponsor this year...Dyson. It makes sense, they been sucking it up out there for years.

I really don't care what space the Blues sell and slap a sponsorship on...as long as it isn't the team logo.
Different parts of the arena, the parking garage, the power play, ads on the boards, on the scoreboard, the outside of the arena, the arena itself, luxury boxes, player of the game, best hit of the game, big save of the game...don't care. Just don't slap an ad on the actual logo itself. That's sacrilegious. The Wings should be ashamed.

Couldn't agree more. I actually dislike corporate naming of Stadiums too, but understand the business of it.

It's a matter of time until NHL jersey' start looking like Nascar fire-suits (and not just because the people wearing them are missing teeth)

I know most folks here don't like soccer but they've been doing jersey sponsors for years. They typically have one main jersey sponsor, they don't plaster the jerseys with sponsors like European hockey teams do. It's about as 'classy' as you can get with something like that.

I prefer this...

To this...

But I'd hope the NHL (and all American sports leagues save for the MLS) would be smart enough not to put sponsors on jerseys.
