What?! I totally wanted all that momentum of a great 3rd period and OT completely halted for a skills competition.

Exactly. The building was on fire. The shootout took all of that away.

I'm not just saying this because the Blues lost. I would have still hated the shootout with any result.

I'm with you. Even when the Blues win a shootout (which is rare, it seems), it feels like a very hallow victory.

Extend the OT, loser gets no points, freaking-frank the shootout, problem solved. I hate CBA talks, but the NHL could use some changes.

Halak is now 3 for 10 in shootouts. So if we have a lot of these we are in trouble.

Well no one scored for the Blues...and the leader in goals and points in the league scored on him. Not too worried.

I wasn't aware Hitchock was taking the shots.

No, but he did send Dags out there in a score or die situation....

But again, I hate the shoot out so I could really care less.

Coaches submit three players up front. They don't get to pick a player at the start of each round.

I had no problem sending Dags out there.
Oshie and Steen are our two best shootout guys...and they already went.
Maybe he could have gone with Stewart instead of Dags...but other than that, I think the three shooters were good choices.
If only Perron were healthy.

That was the first thing that crossed my mind, but again....it's completely retarded that games are decided by a skills competition. You can't build a team based on winning shootouts, and this team certainly isn't.

Perron and McDonald would have helped. That was a pretty piss poor shootout.

I thought Halak played well overall.

Yeah, Halak wasn't staying square to the shooter as they came in. On the goal he allowed, there was all kinds of room between him and the post...and same thing on the one he saved, but he got a piece of it with his glove.
When Halak went down on both of those, he was square to center ice and didn't match the speed of the shooter...so there was room between Halak and the post...quite a bit of room actually. It's like Toronto knew this since both of their shooters did the same kind of thing.

If the Blues can eliminate that crappy 1st period play and play whole games the way they played the 2nd and 3rd period, the Blues will win lots of games. Scrivens made a ridiculous save late in the game on Steen, which IMO was the one that was the difference between it going to OT and the Blues winning. Scrivens was very good last night when the Leafs fell apart and the Blues were dominating the ice throughout the 2nd and 3rd periods.
