Sounds like he needs a lot of work. He's a purely offensive dman with an amazing shot and great vision but he lacks good skating ability, toughness and needs work in his own end.
This is probably a high risk / high reward pick.

It's a good thing skating isn't important in hockey...oh wait.kodos wrote:Sounds like he needs a lot of work. He's a purely offensive dman with an amazing shot and great vision but he lacks good skating ability, toughness and needs work in his own end.

As a Michigan State grad, I've gotta say that I approve of this MacEachern pick. I'm definitely looking forward to room having a great career in the green and white, followed by another great career in the Bluenote.

Read some 'Mike Green" references
Makes since, Yes we have Pie and Shatty right now, but if they both end up top end offensive D-man, can we really afford both of them in 3 or 4 years? We may need to be looking for a cheaper replacement for Shatty. I think this really shows Army is drafting for the future and understanding that our strengths and needs now may very well not be the same buy the time draft picks are ready to contribute at the NHL level.

I think you always take the guy with the best prospects to pan out and ignore immediate needs. Who knows what the team will need by the time Schmaltz is ready for the NHL. Most of these guys take at least 3-5 years before they are ready to challenge for an actual roster spot. 3-5 years is an eternity in the NHL.

I'm wicked jealous of the Oilers. Three first overall's in a row. That's just not right.
They'll be blowing sh(t up here in about 2-3 years
