How is it so dead on here on the biggest day of the summer?

Brad Boyes just signed with the Islanders for 1 year at 1 million.

No HUGE signings yet.

Also...Pierre Mcguire is a douche.

Let's not knock the Boyes signing. The Islanders are damned close, they have a great young nucleus there and the potential for 20-30 goals from Boyes will really help push that team closer to a playoff spot. They do need to solve their goaltending woes, though.

Wasn't knocking it at all. I think it's a great signing for them. If he actually puts forth an effort, he can score some goals and that offense could take off.

If he loafs around like he's done for the better part of his last year here and his two years in Buffalo, well, then it won't hurt you all that much at that price.

Low risk, high reward potential.

The question which one of the big names will sign first and to which team?

Per Strickland: Chris Mason goes back to Nashville. 1 year deal.

Also, a 2 game veteran of the St. Louis Blues has re-signed w/ the team--Taylor Chorney to a 2 way deal.

Especially for $1 million. Hell, I'd probably take him back in the 'note for that low of a price. I think this is clearly his last shot though. If he plays like crap this year and can't gel with the young nucleus on Long Island he might be out of an NHL career.

Good to see the Habs toughening up with the Prust and Armstrong signings. I'd like to see the oldest team in hockey be back in relevance. Their fans are batsh(t crazy, I love it.

Blues also sign Scott Ford, a depth defenseman who looks like he's played for every team the AHL has to offer. All depth signings up to this point.

Jordan Tootoo is a Red Wing. As if we didn't have plenty of reasons to despise him already, he just went ahead and made sure he got the point across.

Biggest Blues news of the day: "Armstrong says that Vladimir Tarasenko's contract with the #stlblues has been signed and sent to the #nhl for registration. #official" From JR's twitter.

The Tank makes it official!

Most boring opening day of free agency evar?

Not a single huge name moves today.

I think the biggest signings were Ray Whitney and Garrison

In terms of 'big names,' Brodeur just re-signed with NJD, 2 years, 9 mil.

Rumor: Detroit offered Suter a 13 year, $90 Million contract.

Suter is going to the Wild. I was surprised their name was in the running and then he goes there. I don't get what's so special about the Wild but more power to 'em. At least it's not the Penguins or Red Wings.

And now Parise is going to the Wild as well. Can't wait for all of the columns declaring the Wild winners of the 2013 Stanley Cup.

No question this makes Minnesota a legit threat now. I highly, highly doubt they'll rattle off 13 straight cups, but it certainly makes the Blues path to the finals a little bit more difficult than it already was.

Hopefully Tank joining the team is worth at least as much to the Blues as Parise is worth to the Wild.

Oshie filed for arbitration. Will be interesting to see what he gets. Some are saying it will be slightly higher than Perron's contract. My guess is it will be significantly higher.

I seriously doubt Parise and Suter on their own are going to help the Wild out beyond maybe getting them to the playoffs. If it does, they're a good half decade off from being a legitimate threat. Look at how long it took the Nordiques/Avs from when they traded off Lindros til they won the Stanley Cup and thats with major inroads (Acquiring Roy, drafting Adam Deadmarsh, etc.). It will be interesting to watch unfold in any case, though I can't see it do anything but help us now; It stalls teams like Detroit who have holes to fill, for one thing.
