I wonder if the Blues will have a new alternative jersey when they resume play to try and draw fans and revenue.

Gary Bettman is the worst commissioner in the history of sports. Such a joke.

I'm no fan of Bettman or his vision of how he wants the NHL to be, but I'm also not sure of his role (or level of responsibility) in this lockout. How much of this is his fault? Should we have the same level of hatred toward the President of the Players' Association?

Fehr is a problem too for sure. He was behind the 1994 baseball strike and clearly does not care about games being cancelled. His only concern is to try to get the best deal for the players. I don't like it, and I think he deserves some of the blame. But, I think there's a difference between his role and Bettman's. Bettman's job isn't just to represent the owners. It is to look out for the welfare of the league as a whole, which goes beyond the interests of the owners. As a result, I think he holds more of the responsibility, just as any commissioner would in a work stoppage.

This is the third work stoppage under Bettman. In that time frame, I believe the MLB, NBA, and NFL have had a combined four work stoppages, and none cancelled an entire season. Above all else, the job of a commissioner is to make sure games are played. He has other responsibilities, but that one trumps all. And, he has failed . . . three times. That's a really bad track record.

Update (of sorts):

League, players' union to meet again

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/league-pla ... --nhl.html

I feel a big fat turd resulting from these meetings again. Or maybe it's just dinner from last night.

The fact that they were meeting so late into the night (midnight on east coast) is encouraging to say the least.
The NHLPA then had a conference call on Sunday, and the two sides are meeting again tomorrow.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The entire season will not be cancelled.
They'll be playing in December.
We'll play around 60 games using an "inter-conference-only" schedule...(which is what they should be playing anyway).

Allright then.
I say they'll start playing no later than December 31st.
You say if they start playing, it will be January 1st or later.
Cool?

Loser displays a sig of the other's choosing (within the site guidelines of course) for...say...a month or so? Until Feb. 1st?

What say you?
