So in your analogy you're saying that Bettman is good at being the commissioner?

I suck at analogies.
Gary Bettman is to being commissioner as Viper is to analogies.

I deserve this. Nice analogy btw.

See what happens when we don't have hockey?

Merry Christmas.

Not that it matters, but NHL made a new proposal this morning:
Details of the new offer include:

• Term limit on player contracts moves to six years from the five years NHL asked in previous offers (seven years if you're re-signing your own player).

• Year-to-year salary variance moves from 5 percent (NHL's previous offers) to 10 percent.

• Each team will be allowed one compliance buyout before the 2013-14 season that will not count against the salary cap but will count against the players' share.

• The Make Whole provision stays at $300 million.
This is from a player source to ESPN (who spoke on condition of anonymity) and unconfirmed by Bill Daly. Trying really hard not to get my hopes up. But, they should already have been close enough to get a deal and this lessens the divide even more.

The league moved significantly with this offer. If the NHLPA rejects this, screw it. This one actually makes sense and fits "most" of the players demands. I particularly like this addition:'
- New Player Discipline procedures and protocol incorporating Player appeal rights to a neutral third-party arbitrator for both on-ice and off-ice discipline.
No more "Brendan Shanahan" or "so and so individual" gets away with making decisions solely by him/her self.

Rumor has it that the owners have told Bettman to "get it done".

So we shall see. This seems to be a sort of hail mary attempt to save a 40+ game season.

I'm numb to it all now. I grew so frustrated and disappointed that in mid December I gave up and stopped hawking over every tweet and news article on TSN.
Don't get me wrong, I know I want hockey back...but my heart just isn't in it right now because of all of the crap over the past 100+ days of the lockout. I'm just tired of it. I don't think I will realize how much I want it back until the the puck drops on the first game.

I'm not spending a dime on hockey for however many days as I am on board with the "Just Drop It" boycott...well, all except for the part about not watching games on tv. I'm still going to watch on tv...but no Center Ice for me or tickets to games, merchandise, etc for the specified time, whatever that would be.

I am still watching the World Juniors on NHLN. No matter what, I will end up watching hockey, simply because I cannot stand the National Boring Association and the asshats hanging on rims for no reason with no consequence in that idiotic league's current format.

I just wonder which owners stepped up and told Bettman to "get it done." I bet none of them are from Boston, Minnesota, Calgary, or Washington DC. In other words the 4 ass-hats who were supposedly arguing in the league's behalf while essentially losing Toronto, Montreal, NY, and Detroit millions of dollars in revenue.

And now today the NHLPA has presented a "counter-proposal" which just made me groan. JUST SIGN THE DAMN THING!!! God. The counter proposal is probably (guessing) way outta whack, the owners are going to feel another impasse and just reject the counter-offer without making a new one. January 11th is basically the "red line" for the entire season. GET THE F*CKING THING DONE GUYS!!! EF

Happy Birthday!

There is some reason for optimism today. Bryzgalov left his KHL team either because the lockout is ending or because he's a crazy loon that they are sick of.

Or because he was promised a spot on the next crew for the international space station.

If their offer isn't close to the owners offer. Its done. Over, and to be honest, I'm going to side with the owners on this one.
