Uni Watch Ranks Blues' Uni's 100th of 122

I think they bring up a good point. I'm surprised to see them this low, actually. I read Uni Watch regularly and they ranked all 122 uniforms from NBA, NHL, MLB, and NFL. Just above the Blues are the Hurricanes, Coyotes, and the Lightning, which I don't agree with. But I feel Uni Watch does bring up some good points about the current unit set. Bring back the horizontal striping and take away the vertical piping!

100
St. Louis Blues

NHL
The Blues have been ill-served by Reebok's Edge template. The apron strings, swoopy stripes on the pants, the collarbone horns -- it's all too much. And the third jersey feels like a pro forma stab at traditionalism. If they want to look traditional, it's easy: Just strip all the nonsense elements from the home and road designs. A shame, because their primary logo is still among the strongest in the league.

Looking at 1-25 automatically invalidates that list for me.

Here it is with just the NHL teams.

I get that a lot of this is subjective, but come on... 26th?

This is one guy with some weird opinions.

Wow...Blue are way too low.
The Blues "new" jerseys are decent. I like 'em...I bought one when they first came out. They are better than most in the league...but they are not as good as they could be...not even close, which always annoyed me.

If they would go traditional with horizontal stripes... that would be killer.

Bring these damn things back...
- Remove the thin red stripes that are between the yellow and white stripes.
- Add the newer, sharp edged note logo (not the circle logo on the 3rd jersey).
- Boom. Awesome.

No idea why the Jazz or Golden State Warriors are in the top 25 (I think the retro style is hideous but that's just me) and where the Chicago Bears come from I have no idea.

This guy is probably from the midwest and a hockey fan since he has the Canadiens #1 and I question whether the average sports fan even knows what team that iconic logo is attached to.

I don't think the Bears are anywhere close to #2. It's a classic look but their number font has always looked dumb to me. Oh, and they have bright orange jerseys. Yea.

Most of the teams have one thing in common: basic color schemes that don't go crazy: Celtics, Maple Leafs, Red Wings and Yankees probably the best examples.

As for our jerseys, I've never been a FAN of our vertical piping but I've never hated it either. And our alternate jersey is one of, if not THE, best in the league. That guy can shove it.

Two immediate top 25's that stick out... I understand the historical value of a logo and sticking with it through the years, but the Yankees and Rangers don't even use those logo's on their uniforms. In fact, in every year the Rangers attempted to wear the shield as the logo on their jerseys, they've had an abysmal season. It's more bad luck than anything for that franchise. If you're ranking uniforms 1-122 you should go with the actual uniform the team wears: for the Yankees the pinstripes and the black NY, for the Rangers the diagonal Rangers.

Edit: And Waukee, I agree. Our 3rd is my favorite in the league and I'm not saying that because I'm a Blues fan, I'm saying that because I'm being honest. My favorite jerseys of all time have included a lot of other teams, the Whalers and the Nordiques--I loved those jerseys.

idk if I would rank the blues @ 100, but I think the criticism is spot on. I DETEST the piping. Hated it from day one.

And "collarbone horns" is the best description yet for the yellow/white stuff on it.

I want stripes (horizontal, around the player's body) on the tail of the jersey, note/arch logos on the arms, Note on the front, laces at the neck, and that's it. No collarbone horns, no piping, no stripes anywhere on the sleeves.

I'm not saying there aren't valid points here, but for those pushing this guy aside like he's just an average joe who wrote about uniforms, should check out his background. He writes for ESPN for a reason and he blogs daily about uniforms.

I'm not saying I agree with him on all points, but he's got a well documented history of why he chooses certain uniforms (I.E. uniforms involving purple, unnecessary black and piping, etc. are bothersome to him).

My point for posting this is that the Blues have sat on these uniforms for 6 years or so and while they're not horrible, they could use some improvements. They have one of the best logos in the league, they need a sweater to match that.

I don't hate them, I never have... but yeah, I think a new uniform every 10 years or so is a good idea.

These could use a refresh in the next few years. A simplification. No trendy retro stuff.

Actually, just make them as close to this as possible and we should be good to go.

Also, while most people love the Blues alternate uniform, I've always been pretty neutral on it. I don't hate it, but I think it's too dark. It doesn't look blue enough for a team called the Blues. It's also all trendy retro.

I'm also not a fan of third jerseys in general. I like for teams to just stick to the basics. I might be weird in that way.

If our third was our primary, I don't think I'd be horribly upset about it. Not that I want them to go that route, but it sure beats:

Its funny, wasnt the Blues voted in the top 3 a few years ago when the new jersey were released in the NHL amongst the fans?

I was thinking along the same lines, but if I remember correctly, that was for team logos, not for jerseys. Could be wrong.

Just found this while lurking elsewhere:

I love the Dark Jersey, The white could be made a lot better by simply flip-flopping the yellow and blue segments on the arm and waist stripes, as well as the socks.

but (Frank) the alternate. :mustard:

That's pretty darn close to what I was describing above.
Those rock! I'd buy one if they switched to them..ugh, I wish they would. Not that I hate our current ones, but these are much, much better.
I don't much care for the yellow alternate though. That's ok for a practice jersey...but it reminds me too much of Nashville's mustard pieces of crap.

Those are pretty friggin' sweet. I'm with Curt, I don't like the yellow all that much, but that jersey set would make the team stand out a little bit more.

I just noticed something I don't particularly care for on those jerseys I posted, The captain's "C". Change the color and unItalicize it and it would be good to go.

That is the only thing that I didn't care for as well. Beautiful other than that.
