Rumor: Halak being shopped?

The Toronto Fan590 guys were talking about a rumor that Armstrong is looking for offers for Halak. I forget who they said had mentioned it.
I heard this and I was like...uh...whut??

So they had Norm Sanders (BND Blues writer) on a bit later, and he pretty much said that was a stupid idea and that it would shock him if that were true, for a few reasons.
1) The short sprint-to-the-finish season with a lot of back to back games would mean the Blues would greatly benefit from having two solid goalies so one didn't get worn out.
2) After Halak got hurt, Elliot didn't wow us in the playoffs last year like he did in the regular season...so putting all of your eggs in Elliot's basket might be iffy right now.
3) The Blues don't have a goalie in the minors that is quite NHL-ready yet to step in as a backup.

After Norm was off the air, they 590 guys said something like, well... if the Blues are out of it near the deadline, they might be willing to ship a guy like Halak to Toronto, who may need a goalie for the playoff push.

That just irked me. They pretty much ignored what Norm said. Plus... like Toronto is going to be in better shape at the trade deadline than the Blues? Uh, I don't think so.

Is it just me or do 9 out of every 10 false rumors involve Toronto?

They clearly chose Halak over Elliot as the #1 late in the year last year, and Hitch has spoke over and over about how the two goalies would be such an asset.

If we are out of it (not going to happen), and if we were going to shop a goalie......it wouldn't be Halak.

It sounds like the Canadian media fabricates reports about hockey like the American media does with football. No way this happens, at least not this year. Curt's points hit the nail on the head. The Blues have a HUGE advantage in that they've got two goalies who played like #1's last year and in a short, compacted season, that's going to work to their benefit. If Elliott again outplays Halak and shows he's for real (including the playoffs), then I could see something happening in the offseason (say, near the draft).

This. As soon as I saw it was being talked about in Toronto I did a  and moved on.
