Kerbs, JR, Panger all confirm on Twitter followed by the Blues making it official.

Solid depth pickup, I'd say. Best days behind him, but it's not like we're counting on him to be a #1 or 2 guy. I like him as the #7 dman as opposed to someone like Woywitka.

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced the club has reached a deal in principal with defenseman Wade Redden.

Terms of the contract are one-year and $800,000.

“Wade is a solid two-way defenseman,” said Armstrong. “We believe his experience will complement and add stability to our defensive core.”

Redden, 35, has spent the past two seasons with the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Connecticut Whale. Last year, he posted 20 points, including 4 goals and 16 assists in 49 games.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound defenseman is a veteran of 13 NHL seasons, including 11 years in Ottawa and, most recently, two with the New York Rangers (2008-2010). Overall, Redden has appeared in 994 National Hockey League (NHL) games, totaling 450 points (106 goals, 344 assists) and 654 penalty minutes.

The Lloydminster, Saskatchewan native was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the first round (2nd overall) of the 1995 Entry Draft.

Redden is scheduled to arrive in St. Louis this weekend and undergo a physical on Sunday.

Not quite sure how I feel about this, It's been almost 3 years since his last NHL game. I understand the signing, we needed a bit more depth at Defense, but I honestly don't think that he would should crack the top 6 right now. I bet Fairchild and Chorney are pretty pissed.

I can't believe I'm actually going to say this, but Strickland said it best  . They are looking for a top 4 defenseman. And while Redden may not be that, they are checking to make sure. They 'KNOW' Fairchild and Chorney are not.

It's been very - very clear that they are not comfortable with their current situation on the Blue line. If Redden doesn't prove top be a top 4 guy (which is honestly a long shot) then I would expect them to keep making moves until the get one.

I agree. Ultimately, I think we make a trade for one.

Fairchild may be good one day but he's certainly not ready now. Good depth signing, but agreed they'll keep at it until the find just the right guy.

How will the Colin White area be remembered?

Redden > Woywitka. If he ends up being more it's a bonus.

I actually liked the idea of Colin White. I liked his size and toughness. In my opinion, we have an undersized defense. I know we got some great puck movers, in Pie, Deuces and Russell. I would like some size and toughness to go along with the skill. Woyitka (sp?) is worthless.

I know he's not NHL tested, but if they want a big body on the blue line why not Ponich?

Why didn't we deep-six Woywitka instead? Contract issue?

What line of thinking had us pay $700K for this guy?

Redden activated, Cole to Peoria. Kinda surprised they're sending Cole down.

Redden will wear No. 6.

In addition, the club assigned defenseman Ian Cole to the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, Peoria Rivermen.

Cole, 23, has dressed in all three of the Blues’ games this season posting an assist and two penalty minutes. Prior to the start of the NHL season, the 6-foot-1, 219-pound defenseman appeared in 34 games with Peoria notching 14 points including three goals and 11 assists.

Wow...I knew they weren't thrilled with Cole in camp, but Pie has put him in some pretty tough situations so far. I hope he can view this as a challenge and keep his head up. We're going to need him, and we're going to need him to play well (at some point in the season)

Looks like Cole isn't actually going anywhere...
Andy Strickland
Ian Cole will remain with #stlblues once Jeff Woywitka goes thru waivers. He had to be assigned to AHL to make roster space for Wade Redden

Weird. So Strick is reporting something different than the Blues organ-eye-zation actually posted on their website?

Possibly because it's not official yet and this is like a "move to Peoria for a day" kinda thing?

Yeah, JR and Pang both tweeted the same thing.

I'm somewhat upset we had to ditch Colin White. He looked to have a lot of potential. Any idea where he's ending up?

Considering we are desperate for help on the Blue line and he didn't crack it here? My guess is Walmart or the KFC.
