Nothing to say. That was a bad call that decided the game. That's all there is to it.

I can live with a shitty call if they invite these cocksuckers back to our barn opening night next season when we put up our cup banner.

Now I need to drank.

It seemed like it took Alex Steen about everything he had not to tell Jim Hayes to screw off and walk out of that interview in the postgame.

Noodles called it out the most he could on the league's network. Walsh should be suspended.

You mistyped drawn and quartered. Or maybe fired for gross incompetence.

Oh boy, did the St. Louis Blues get jobbed by the officials on Friday night.

Captain David Backes was given a match penalty at 9:38 of the third period for a hit to the head of Detroit Red Wings defenseman Kent Huskins, resulting in his ejection and a 5-minute major penalty.

Pavel Datsyuk scored during the ensuing power play for the 4-3 lead; the Wings eventually won the Central Division showdown, 5-3, thanks to a Henrik Zetterberg hat trick.

One tiny, little problem: Replays showed that Backes never made contact with Huskins’ head. Backes made contact with the chest.

Good lord what a blown call.

Backes’s body is basically square with the numbers on Huskins’ arm. A violent hit, to be sure, but he makes more contact with the waist than the head.

It was a brutal call that undeniably changed the dynamics in the third period, especially with the Red Wings have knotted the thing up just over five minutes earlier.

Overall, there were complains from both fan bases throughout the game about officials Ian Walsh and Chris Lee, who called seven minor penalties in the first period. But this penalty on Backes is the kind of over-reactive, hair-trigger call that makes one think that over-protection of the players can sometimes trump good judgement. An embarrassment, given the stakes.

We’ll update with comments from the Blues later. Because you know they’re coming.

I know the replay is slow-mo, but if you look at the shot where the ref is behind the Backes hit, he doesn't immediately react to the hit but more to the way Huskins went down, IMO. His head snapped awkwardly & that seemed to tick the arm going up. Idk. Shitty call. (Frank) the Wings, get them next time.

One of the worst calls I've ever seen. Absolutely atrocious. I can see a bad call making a clean hit be a penalty periodically. And, I can see a ref giving 5 instead of 2 without justification, on occasion. But, I can't see a clean hit resulting in a game misconduct that puts one team on a power play for 5 of the remaining 10 minutes of a tie game. That's inexcusable. I haven't heard Hitch's comments yet, but I hope he tears them a new one so hard he gets fined.

I'm sure that's what happened, but it's still BS. If they want to police head shots, they shouldn't do it by overreacting to what a ref thinks may have happened. They should do it with heavy suspensions after the opportunity to look at replays.

Rule number one of officiating is you only call what you see, not what you think probably happened. He clearly didn't see head contact because it didn't happen. So, he shouldn't make a call that has that drastic of an impact on the game.

Too wordy for a headline?

Wow, just finished watching the game on dvr. What a joke. That call ruined a good game. Well despite all the other terrible calls...

They have got to do something about these interference calls. You can already tell players have figured it out and are using it to draw penalties. Just dump it in then get touched, and go on a power play...

Very a propos. An aged, failed, crumbling hockey team is given points from the truly successful by way of unfair regulatory gifts.

So it's pretty much like Detroit itself.

I haven't been this angry after a game in years. What a total travesty.

I was playing poker and had the game on in the background, so I didn't get to watch the details of the game...just basically caught the goals and big plays.

It's one thing to make a bad call, but it's another to make a bad call late in a tie game against a hated rival, and it'a quite another thing when that bad call is an absolutely horrible call that ends up deciding the game.

What pisses me off the most is that the ref never saw it. He was behind the play and never saw contact with the head. He based his call on the aftermath, which is complete BS. When you make a call that is going to eject a player, you have to be 100% sure. And there is no way he could have been 100%. So why the hell did he make the call? Makes no sense.

I take comfort knowing that it took a horrible call against us, plus a superhuman effort from Zetterburg for them to beat us in their own building...oh yeah, AND we are still ahead of the Wings in the standings.

I'm looking forward to the next game. This time, the Blues will be looking for redemption.

I'd love to hear from Backes, or better yet, Huskins.

By the way, I really hate the Red Wing announcers, they're usually the most biased duo in the game. But even they couldn't even figure out where the penalty was.

"There's one that Brendan Shanahan will have to look at, for about one second"... Just enough time for him to crank one out and fall asleep.

I had to listen to this one on the radio tonight. Kerber's description of the penalty call was amazing. Kept saying this was the textbook definition of "getting 'winged' at Joe Louis Arena"

I can't wait until next thursday boys.
