BLUES (11-8-2) at KINGS (11-7-2)

TV: FS-MW, FS-W

Last 10: St. Louis 5-4-1; Los Angeles 8-2-0.

Season series: This is the second of three meetings. The Kings earned a 4-1 victory against the Blues on Feb. 11 at St. Louis.

Big story: Los Angeles pulled even with St. Louis in the extremely tight Western Conference standings with Monday night’s 5-1 win against the Nashville Predators at Staples Center. The Kings and Blues are two of six teams in the West with 24 points.

Team scope:

Blues: St. Louis has experienced difficulty stringing wins together this season, as it has alternated wins and losses for the past four games. In fact, the Blues have only been able to win back-to-back games once this season, when they reeled off three straight wins from Feb. 13-17. They failed to make it two in a row with Sunday’s 4-1 loss at Dallas in the first of a five-game road trip.

"We had too many average performances," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "What can you say? Too many average performances doesn't get it done on the road."

Kings: After seeing their five-game winning streak come to an end Saturday night at Vancouver, the Kings got right back on the horse Monday. After a slow start to the game – Los Angeles had just three shots on goal in the first period – Jeff Carter shifted into another gear later in the night and ended up tallying a natural hat trick, with his second and third goals coming just 19 seconds apart. Carter leads the Kings with 14 goals in 20 games.

“It’s been good,” Carter said. “I feel like everything’s back to normal now. I was out here all lockout hanging out with, probably 10 guys. So it was nice to get out and get settled and relax a little bit. I’m comfortable here now. I feel like I’m in a good position and [on] a great team.”

Who’s hot: Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk has a goal and an assist over the past two games. … Carter has scored in six of the Kings’ past seven contests. He has eight goals over that span.

Injury report: Alexander Steen (upper body) is on injured reserve, while Andy McDonald (knee) and Vladimir Tarasenko (concussion) are day-to-day. … Los Angeles defensemen Willie Mitchell (knee) and Matt Greene (back) are on injured reserve.

We turn it around. Play like the team we should be.

Blues 5
Kings 2

I'm also predicting the Hawks to lose tonight.

Mercifully I won't be able to stay up to watch any of this game. Don't think I'll DVR it either.

Kings 3
Blues 0

WTF is Mr. Compton (author of the article) talking about? Didn't the Blues start the season with back-to-back wins, 1 loss, then 4 straight wins? Mr. Compton needs to go back to journalism school and learn how to do research, or actually state the truth - that the blues have not won back-to-back games outside of a 3-game road trip in February after starting the season 6-1.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to start the season 6-1 and not win two in a row at some point during that span.

Idiots.

I just bought a 22oz ruination ipa for the game tonight. Hope I don't need it until I am doing a victory dance and playing domination by pantera really loud at 0030 and then being murdered by my sleeping wife.

I'm not usually doom and gloom, but I don't see how we win this one.

Which means we pull it off, somehow.

I have a bad feeling about this one. Mainly because it's a late game and if things go badly + it's late I'm liable to destroy something that I will regret later; like furniture. I hate the west coast.

It sure would be nice to be delightfully surprised though.

4-1 lead gone, now 4-4,

Firing the coach is starting to look like a real possibility. This team has a lot of give up in it, and I'm starting to hold him responsible.

5-4. Fire Hitchcock.

6-4 final. Fire Hitchcock. Probably the lowest point of this franchise in four years.

If all you're going to do is trade a couple of guys, you're admitting that the season is over. Two guys is not going to make the difference. It may not be fair, but keeping the status quo is admitting that you as Blues fans simply don't deserve any better.

Time to see whether this new owner wants to win or if he just wants to own a team where its mewling small-market fans will swallow anything they're served.

They quit on Murray
They quit on Payne

So your solution is to rebuild. Because that's what you're saying. Trade Oshie, Perron, and Stewart, and wait another three years. Are you willing to do that?

Uninspired. When do we start blaming the players? I'd be willing to bet that there are guys in Peoria who are willing to play a whole 60 minutes. Send a couple millionaires down and let them carry their own hockey equipment for a while. Tired of this sh*t
