Dmitrij Jaskin put up some pretty sick numbers in the QMJHL this year.

In 51 regular season games he netted 46 goals and 99 points.

He was the leagues 4th highest scorer despite missing 17 games.

From everything I have read about this kid, he should be fun to watch. Hopefully, his earlier level play translates to the NHL. When he jumped from U18 to U20 play it took him 2 years to get going, but he exploded again once making the adjustment.

Here is the Hockey's Future blurb on his talent:
Jaskin is a big, strong boy and when he's on, defenders have a difficult time stopping him and he's nearly impossible to bump off the puck. He also has a mean streak, never backing down when challenged, which can sometimes get him into penalty trouble. Some scouts have also questioned whether he is always motivated to play, as he tends to be a streaky player.
Looks to me like he was pretty darn consistent in the QMJHL.

I ready to see Rattie and I'm ready to see Jaskin even though that may be a few seasons from now. :okman:

Only details I have seen so far say it is a 3-year entry level contract.

Signing Schwartz burned a year of eligibility, regardless of playing 9 games. Does the same apply to Jaskin?

Speaking of Rattie; he had 48g 68a 110p this year with Portland. Also 120 points last year.

Even though success doesn't always translate to the NHL, the future looks bright for us.

Signing Schwartz did not burn that first year. Playing him immediately did. The question is do the Blues play Jaskin immediately and start burning those years now, or do they send him to Peoria? He is probably going to Peoria. Playing him now would mean Schwartz, DP, or AMac sit. I would be fine with DP sitting, but a full 3 years of Rattie and Jaskin with whomever at Center should bode well for the Blues future.

It was reported yesterday that the Blues specifically signed him before the deadline to add him to the NHL roster and get him in some games THIS YEAR.

I believe JR tweeted it and reported it on a live spot on 101.

JR just confirmed it via Hitch in his weekly chat:
Just a few minutes ago, Hitchcock compared Jaskin to Marian Hossa and said you can expect to see him in a Blues' uniform this season. I think that will happen very soon.

I'm as excited as anyone else to see Jaskin (and Rattie) in the note eventually, but why rush him? Let him play out the season in Peoria, get a full training camp in next year and hopefully earn a spot on the roster for the 13-14 season.

He's supposed to be NHL ready. So why drag our feet?
If he can contribute now, then let's go...we could use some help offensively.

And if we were comfortably in the 4-6 range in the Western Conference, I wouldn't rush it either.

But sh*t... we're clinging to #8 for dear life. ANYTHING to get this team to win even ONE more game I'm all for. Maybe he'll be a little Energizer bunny out there his first few NHL games (adrenaline and all that). If Hitchcock and management think it'll make a difference... do it

Will this kid be good in the NHL?
What about the other Peoria dudes?

Saw a tweet (re-tweet, actually) that Jaskin is expected to join the Blues direct rather than have any time in Peoria. Is this accurate?

JR Tweeted this today
Originally it was thought Jaskin would go to Peoria, then #stlblues. Now..."we might bring him right in" to St. Louis, Armstrong said.

I'm curious why that is. It seems like the kind of decision that wouldn't change once they signed him unless there was some external force (i.e. injury) that changes things. Oshie was already hurt when we signed him and is expected back soon I believe.

I don't know if either of these are relevant, but Nichol has now missed 3(?) games with "soreness" and AMac has the flu in April.

Jaskin recalled from Peoria.

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Tuesday the club has recalled forward Dmitrij Jaskin (dih-MEE-tree YEAH-skihn) from the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.

Jaskin, 20, dressed in 51 games for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s (QMJHL) Moncton Wildcats leading the club and ranking 5th league-wide with 99 points (46 goals, 53 assists) to go along with 73 penalty minutes.

In addition, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound forward was named the QMJHL’s first star of the month for November 2012 and January 2013 while he also earned first star of the week honors for consecutive weeks in January.

Prior to 2012-13, Jaskin spent the previous two seasons with Slavia Praha HC of the Czech Extraleague posting 12 points (four goals, eight assists) and 32 penalty minutes in 63 career games.

The Omsk, Russia native was drafted by the Blues in the second round, 41st overall, of the 2011 Entry Draft.
