Blues forward Chris Porter has agreed to terms on a two-year, one-way contract extension, the club announced today.
Porter, who will turn 29 in May, was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
The one-way deal is of much significance for Porter, an undrafted winger out of the University of North Dakota who was signed as a free agent in 2007. Over the past seven years, he has had four two-way agreements with the club, in which he makes a minor-league salary when assigned to Peoria of the American Hockey League.
Under his new contract, Porter will be guaranteed an NHL salary. The deal will pay him $650,000 in 2013-14 and $700,000 in 2014-15.
Porter has been a reliable player on the shuttle from Peoria to St. Louis, which includes 10 assignments to the Rivermen in his career. In 272 games in the AHL, he has 41 goals and 112 points, and in 113 NHL games, playing a grinder role for the club, he has nine goals and 18 points.
