That was clearly one of Backes' best games, and clearly the best of the year.

It wasn't just because he played physical, but his hits were timely. He didn't take himself out of plays and he didn't take stupid penalties.

Furthermore the rest of the boys fed off of him.

Nice to see 57 show up for a change.

Now all that 'good feelings' out of the way, we still only have one goal from a forward in 13 full periods and one overtime.

Last night Backes showed why he's my favorite player on the Blues. I thought he was going to eat Ballard and then go after Burrows for seconds. His intensity is awesome, and last night it was at its peak. Speaking of Burrows, I agreed with Pang that that was 3rd man in. I can see how it was borderline because they hadn't actually thrown a punch yet. But, gloves were off and they were squared up. Point of the rule is to stop somebody from targeting somebody engaged with somebody else. I think it was a bad call, but oh well I guess. We got 2 points which is far more important.

Yeah, the scoring needs to pickup. I know we didn't score after the drought ended, but the team looked more confident after the Bouwmeester goal. That's pretty subjective and I don't know how to quantify it, but they seemed to have a different feel to them after that. Hopefully this goal drought will somehow help them in the playoffs.

If you are going bald, David Backes will make fun of you. Oh Captain, my Captain!

Kerry Fraser would have given Burrows the gate for third man in. Interesting read on how the rules changed precisely to prevent what Burrows did.
