This series is clearly an NHL conspiracy against Canadian teams, because no matter who wins, a Canadian team is eliminated.

Good God. I hope Lars Eller is okay. FYI, there's a lot of blood in this video, so if you're squeamish you might want to sit this one out.

Clean hit!

The league needs to PUBLICLY SHAME the officials from tonight... most games

Eller has multiple facial fractures, dental fractures, contusions and a concussion.

What a bonehead, suicide pass to Eller. Hung him out to dry.

Hope he's ok. You never want to see anything like that happen to anyone.

Montreal is done. They were sinking before the playoffs started...now they lose one of their hottest forwards.

Ouch, I was just going to ask where he was bleeding from. He was bleeding from everywhere.

I saw it happen live and knew it wasn't going to be pretty...

I haven't seen anything to say otherwise. Sucks Eller didn't see it coming, but I don't think it should have even been a penalty either...

The moment I saw the release on that pass I thought "Oh no."

Sure enough...

Total suicide pass. Your guy is going to get killed on that play, cleanly or not, 9 out of 10 times.

Melrose is calling for a suspension for a shot to the head. I don't know what he's looking at though. Chest was principle point of contact. I'm not sure the head was even a point of contact, much less the principle one. Sucks that he got hurt, and I hope he's OK. But, that hit was clean IMO.

Clean hit no way that the head was targeted.

I have watched this hit several times and I can't see where the head contact is. I don't know if there's a better angle out there I haven't seen, but it looks like the shoulder hits the chest and the injuries are from hitting the ice with his face. It was a punishing open ice collision, but I don't see dirty on this. Am i jaded? I think the attempt on Jaden in our game last night was waaay more worthy of supplemental discipline or an intent to injure penalty.

It was brutal, it was a pass that shouldn't have been made, it had unfortunate consequences, but I am just not seeing where the wrong was.

Maclean apparently put the onus on Diaz for making the pass. Today, Brandon Prust responded with this:
We don't really care about what that bug eyed fat walrus has to say.
That's an all timer.

This. Dustin Brown stuck his leg WAY out, with plenty of time to think about what he was doing.

The Eller thing was a very fast play, and I honestly couldn't see the head contact either. I think he just hit the ice a little too hard. Certainly not an intentional targeting of the head.

Yep, but Brown missed, so in NHL lalaland, all is good. They need to review this (and more hits in general). If they determine he didn't do anything wrong (somehow) they need to explain why. When they don't even review dirty hits, it just makes them look REALLY bad.

Guys, his head gets hit first...barely. I can clearly see it on the video on the camera angle at ice level that Eller is skating towards. It looked like the head was the principle point of contact, but it wasn't targeted...at least I don't think.
You see Eller's helmet get jarred when his head gets hit and he is unconscious before he hits the ice.
You don't get knocked unconscious without a serious blow to the head.

I don't think it was a dirty hit at all...just a guy dishing out an open ice hit.
It's one of those hits that comes from playing a rough and dangerous sport. It sucks, but it happens sometimes. Sure, he could have been nice and not drilled him...but this is the playoffs. You can lose a game and possibly the series if you play "nice".
He's just playing hockey.

Sure, it would be nice if players were more aware and went out of their way not to hit another player's head...but the game is so fast and bang bang quick, that's almost an impossible thing to ask. Granted, in this situation, he did have time to avoid his head because he came at him from a distance and lined him up.

The angle that starts at :34 is the most telling in that clip. He was obviously not intentionally targeting the head. In fact, if he would have aimed about 6 inches to his right with the hit, it would have been an exact repeat of the Campbell hit on Umberger. It sucks that he will probably get suspended for this just because it looked bad and scary. Seems to be the NHL's modus operandi these days

Bob McKenzie is saying Gryba gets a 2 game suspension.

And Brown doesn't get reviewed. Seems fair.
