When the top guys don't step up, you lose.

Stewart with another garbage game. Did Backes have a shot? Can Oshie stay on his feet? And Hitchcock not playing the "CPR" line is freakin retarded.
I'll watch Friday, but I expect a loss.

From my couch that looked like a fairly weak goal to end the game...

That's because it was.

Seven goals given up in two games. I don't think I'd do it, but Hitch has to consider Halak in game six. At the very least, he's going to have a very, very quick hook for Elliott.

I am not on the "sky is falling" bandwagon. We played really, really well and dominated the game everywhere but on the scoreboard.

I am not upset about losing to the Kings like this. They are the defending champs for a reason, and this is one of the best series I have ever watched.

I really wish we would have picked up a scorer at the deadline instead of two defense, but hey, what do I know.

This series is done. There's no way we win in LA on Friday.

I've also decided it time to talk about how the 57 Area will be remembered. :)

IF this is our franchise, the fact we're battling and keeping up against the DEFENDING STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS who are beating us by ONE GOAL speaks volumes. No negativity on this, we can do this.

Hitch needs to dress seven D and dig deep. The CPR line is still our top line, let them play. Perron, Amac, Stewart need to ride pine, put in Tank for 60 . Dress Russell. Start Halak. Yes, I said start Halak, not to punish Elliott who has been superb but because we need a complete change of tempo from word go. If we're going to lose this, let's leave everything we got on the ice. This is not a time to scream the sky is falling, this is the time to step up and give it whatever we got left. One goal. That's all we're losing by. One Goal. We can do this.

I'd be okay with sitting either Perron or McDonald. Neither will be on the roster next year, so what the heck? Run Tank out there and play him the full shift.

They mentioned on the radio after the game that there are 2 forwards (maybe players?) on either team with 0 hits. Both played 18+ minutes. Their names are McDonald and Perron. I know they aren't super physical, but come on.

The guy that sat behind me tonight is, by far, the most annoying person I have ever sat near at a sporting event. He bitched CONSTANTLY. Like a stream of consciousness of bitching. Then he left with 5 minutes left in the game and missed our last minute goal. That was awesome.

Sorry, but Perron will be here next year. New contract. Amac has been awful. Guy is a joke. Hitch is responsible for him playing, plain and simple. Tank should of been in for him after game 1.

Seriously??
Elliott was very good. He has been the entire series.
The winning goal was flukey. Schwartz slashed Voynov when he was shooting, causing him to not get much on it, fooling Elliott as he lifted up to get the would be high shot...and it went 5-hole.
No way Halak plays on Friday unless Elliott gets hurt or gives up 5 or 6 goals. Hitch isn't even considering it. Not a chance.

You don't think that in an elimination game that Hitch would even consider pulling Elliott if it's 2-0 on six shots after one?

I think in a way that he's been done wrong by the front office. If you have two goalies (other than a complete outlier year like last year), you have none. The front office gave him three. But you're paying Halak this money precisely so he can play in big games if you need him.

To speak to your first point, the Blues are facing elimination. If the Blues come out of the game sluggish and get down 2 quick ones, I'd figure Hitch pulls out all the stops, possibly pulling Elliott. At that point, you are in do or die mode.

That said, Elliott hasn't been the problem. Look at the majority of the goals he's given up in games 4 and 5. Most of them have come off of defensive breakdowns, odd man rushes, etc. And the tip in go ahead goal in Game 4 was almost an unstoppable shot. The winner last night was almost a fluke. It seemed that the shot was going to be chest level. Elliott had the right read, but the slight change of direction resulted in him not being able to get down fast enough.

Agree totally. Elliott has been pretty good, although I still think he may not be a Blue next year. But Halak is going to have to be ready to play, because he may see the ice on Friday.

I'm not sure why some of you are so down on Perron. He has battled hard...and has created a lot of good chances and has had a lot of very good puck possession shifts. He just hasn't scored...along with almost everyone not named Steen or Oshie...so it's not just Perron.
Perron has done a whole hell of a lot more than McDonald and Stewart. I think you can rip on McDonald and Stewart all day long...but I think Perron has played well.

I'm pissed, frustrated, annoyed, angry, etc. But the bottom line is the Blues should have/could have already won this series...even with McDonald and Stewart being non-existant. They have outplayed the Kings in 4 of the 5 games...and outplayed them by a large margin in two of those games.

Two things...
- Failure to finish on open nets (I can't believe this is what may have cost us the series...half a dozen open friggin' net misses in one game).
- Jonathan Quick. He almost single handedly has the Kings up 3-2 in the series.

Elliott has been more than we could have hoped for. He's been outstanding. Simply bad luck on that overtime goal last night with Schwartz slashing Voynov as he shot, causing the puck to come off his stick flat and fool Elliott. If you watch the replay, Schwartz's last stride or two on the game winning goal, he slowed down a tad right before the puck was passed...not much, but he did. Then he tries to hustle again when he saw the puck was passed. If he keeps going 100%, he probably stops Voynov from even getting the shot off at all. It was such a little thing that you'll never hear anyone mention it because they probably didn't see it, but it was there. That was frustrating to me. But it's hard to rip on Schwartz...he's been so good in this series.

And one more thing...
Why not play the CPA line in the 2nd half of the 3rd and OT? I get that they are younger, inexperienced players...but they have been our best line in the series. What else do they have to do?

Anyone else absolutely in love with Schwartz?

Dude has been so good.

Edit, Hitchcock is a freaking idiot. Not a fan of that guy at all.

This. FSMW showed a graphic last night to support this point--- Scoring Chances: Blues-20, Kings-6. And the Blues, at that point, were trailing 2-1.

Hate to beat a dead horse, but that points at what we've been saying for years. We really need a finisher. I think the one difference between now and the past few years when we've said it is that a legit top line scorer would put us on the short list of cup favorites. If we could play Hitch's style with the ability to score, we would be unstoppable IMO. Hopefully Tarasenko makes a pretty big leap in the offseason. I think he's our most realistic chance of having one.

Positives:
- We out-shot the hell out of them
- At several points we maintained consistent pressure with good scoring chances
- Alex Steen was by far the best player in a blue jersey last night
- Winning races

Negatives:
- Several terrible passes from Oshie
- ANOTHER odd-man chance for L.A. that, shocker, they score on. I count three goals they've scored because of an odd man rush we've given up. Our guys need to be smarter about picking their spots when they pinch.
- Elliott was fairly average
- We still need more goals and have to find a way to get past Quick.

Oh, and James Reimer's wife is freakin gorgeous.

Count me in on the Dump 57 band wagon.

He's an excellent player with amazing individual skills in many areas and not a good fit for this team/style of play. He would make a great Red Wing - dance around with the puck, make nifty passes, cry like a bitch, not hit anyone, and be ineffective against a real Western Conference Playoff Team. He is not a legit top line player and is being asked to be one. It's a no win situation for him and the team. Trade him.

Andy McDonald is just too small for this series. Against a different opponent, he's tearing the series up. I have seen him perform in the playoffs before, and I know he can still do it. This is just not his match up.

I am on the "we need a bonafide finisher" bandwagon. I was sooooo f'ing jealous of the move JD made for the CBJ at the deadline. That was a player that would have really altered the Blues' look going in to this series.

We COULD have a couple of finishers, but the front office is not willing to open the wallet to get any.
