So now instead of having four guys in the organization just like him, we have five. Is Armstrong just trying to troll everyone or what?
I really think Army gave it a shot, but from the sounds of it the Blues had a 'plan' (or a budget) and they didn't want to deviate from that. I don't blame them for not wanting to fork over a truckload of money for guys who aren't worth it. That said, to misfire on all of your targets in a day is not a good thing for the franchise. The Blues still have a bunch of guys who can score 20 goals, but no one to feed them the puck.

It's looking like thee Blues will have to go the trade route to get that Center they need.

Surprised Derek Roy's name hasn't surfaced anywhere... Is he plain too expensive for the Blues?

I'm surprised on that too. Just went over TSN's Top 30 and saw his name on there along with a bunch of people I have no clue who they are.

Max Lapierre is too expensive for the Blues. I'm surprised they splurged. It'll keep us out of the free agent market for a couple years now.

Apparently Brunner to the Blues may be possible. http://www.hockeybuzz.com/boards/thread ... orum_id=73

Detroit, with arguably the best scouting team in the league, would be that easily willing to let Brunner go when they're in a rebuild? From what I gather he's nothing special and sucks at face offs. Just the type of guy we'd be excited about signing.

I completely forgot he was a UFA. No one (pundit-wise) talked about him yesterday. I love this signing, he's a setup guy, which is what our goal scorers need. We didn't have a playmaking center until we signed Roy. Plus, 1 year, 4 mil, low risk, low cost and he immediately becomes our top or 2nd line center. Now down the middle you are looking at Berglund, Roy, Porter, Lapierre, Backes. Most likely Backes goes back to the wing, which will be nice. And now the depth with Aucoin in the minors in case of injury is a plus. No downside to this signing for me.

I don't dislike the Roy signing, but I don't think he's the answer at the first line center. If healthy, he's fine as a 2.

Cap geek seems to believe Roy's deal is 1 year for $4 M and that that puts us at $57.8825 M, with Petro, Stewie and Allen left to sign

which means we don't have enough cap space left. Armstrong will likely need to make some sort of move to shed payroll.

I for one didn't expect the Blues' payroll to be bumping against the ceiling rather than clinging to the floor.

He seems like he's on the decline so this will either work one of two ways... he'll continue the decline or the change of scenery will give him a boost and he'll provide a jump in offense. I'm inclined to think the former. If changes in scenery were what motivates Roy to do well, he would have gotten more than 6 points in his 12 games in Vancouver. Small sample size, yes. But Alan Vigneault promotes a highly offensive style of hockey whereas Ken Hitchcock doesn't. If Roy was going to produce, he would have under AV and he probably won't under KH.

Only thing that bothers me is that we are now going to have to spend to the cap (I would think) to re-sign Allen and Pietrangelo.

If they were both re-signed before this deal was done I would have no issue. As it is, this makes me nervous. Unless something is in the works to trade Perron et al. Who knows. Clearly I don't
