According to capgeek, he's taking a 1.28 mil/yr pay cut to stay in the note. I call that a huge franking winnar of a contract for the team.

Wow...no one has replied to this yet? I thought this was big news, just couldn't get to a computer.

I love this deal. You get a guy, still in his prime, can skate like the lightning, puts up points, plus he's at a reasonable rate. On top of that, should they (or when they) re-sign Petro, you've got your #1 D pair locked up for X number of years. Not to mention Shatty as well. Army always said he was building this team from the goal out and he's proving it.

Now I'm not saying they're in the same class, but Petro-Bouw as surely out best D-pair since Prongs-Al Mac.

I fully expect we hear about a deal for Petro very soon.

Wow, I really didn't see this coming. I fully expected him to walk next year. It's a lot of $ but I absolutely loved watching him last year. Now just Petro & MSP.

I was just thinking with the decrease in pay the next 5 years, maybe Petro signs with a decreased first year and increased next 5 years.

I was also thinking that, could be structured in a way specifically to aid in getting Petro locked up to a similar length deal.

Quite surprised by this.

Our cap situation is unsustainable for SURE now. Guys are going to have to be moved in 2-3 years. Significant guys. Oh well. The Blackhawks did it and won a cup two years after their own salary cap meltdown. Why can't we?

The cap is set to go up drastically in the next few years.

They won't have cap problems, but they might have money problems.

They'll have to raise ticket prices.

And what I've been saying for years: the Blues have some of the cheapest tickets in American sports. If people get upset by the increase, then they don't want to see winning hockey. They've finally built up a nucleus, they're keeping that nucleus in tact, we've made the playoffs two years in a row and guys are starting to hit their prime. More cash out of pocket is to be expected.

Some good quotes in here:
“(The team) mentioned something at the end of the year that at some point over the summer they’d be in touch, throw things around and see where everyone’s at,” Bouwmeester said. “When we started talking, it was good, it was exciting. When I got there, it seemed like a good fit, a good spot and it’s somewhere that I want to be for a while.
“We certainly gave up a major piece — a first-round pick and two other prospects — to get him,” Armstrong said. “We were content on doing that to try and have a really good push to last season ... and knowing we’d have a pretty good opportunity to try to (re-sign) him.

“It was exciting when I talked to Jay and his representation that they felt this was a team that was on the rise and a team that he wanted to be part of. We’re entering a new phase in our organization with this current group. Now we’re a place we’re good players want to be.”
Bouwmeester said that the reason is because the talent is already here.

“It seems like that they’ve got pretty much everyone signed now through at least the next couple of years,” he said. “You’ve got that nucleus of guys that probably aren’t going anywhere ... The fact that everyone is going to be back, and you add some guys, there’s some optimism going forward.”
“Forwards, I deem their prime years from 24, 25-32 and defensemen from 27-34, so I think he’s going to be able to play through his prime during this term,” Armstrong said.

Hearing him say those things make me like the guy even more. I'm excited for some hockey. Is it time yet?

Great signing at a great price, but we still need more scoring.
