Bettman rethinking Sochi

What I'd like to know is in the incredibly unlikely event that the NHL players are pulled out, will they still take a 2 week break from real games? The schedule's already made. What will they do to fill the void?

Impromptu All Star game and skills game? Another lockout for old time's sake? An outdoor game featuring the Blackhawks, Penguins, Rangers, Capitals, Flyers, and Wings? And not separate games. All of them. At the same time. Just full on verbal fellatio of all of those teams at once.

So tired of these bullshit games. OMG, it's in Russia, we are all going to get blown up. Didn't something happen in Boston in the recent past? Should we relocate the Bruins, the Celtics, the Patriots, the Revolution along with their fans, somewhere safe? There were threats before the London Olympics, I don't remember anyone considering not going or too much being made of that. Maybe I'm mistaken. Yes, there are risks but these risks are everywhere. Let's all lock our doors and just stay inside for Pete's sake, just in case there's somebody out there with a bomb.

If a situation occurs that makes Sochi really dangerous and bad, we won't send NHL players there?

My vote would be for the players to have a fantasy draft sort of deal where they draw up maybe 16 teams and then play a brackets style roller hockey tourney over the two weeks. Winner gets nothing, loser gets nothing, fans get a nifty little flashback to the 90's. Proceeds to a worthy charity.

Sorry Comrade, but I've heard about enough security issues over there that I would be a bit leery of going, personally. Unfortunately, a London to Russia comparison as a destination spot probably won't go all that well in their favor either. They do have slightly different history's and ways of operating....I'm sure Russia's reputation is skewed unfairly in certain ways though too, but it is what it is, as unfair as it may be.

Of course, I'm looking at it from a spectator perspective too. I'm sure if I was an athlete with a chance to represent my country I'd have a different feeling about the whole thing.

All I'm saying is that shit is overblown and there's a strong political drive on behalf of the west (mainly U.S.) to smear stuff on Russia, deservedly or not. The Olympics in 1980 were largely boycotted by the western countries, and given the cooling of the relationship in the last few years, I can't help thinking that a lot of the terrorist stuff is just fear mongering to put more financial and political pressure on Kremlin. The current situation in Ukraine probably serves as an additional incentive.

I am not saying nothing will blow up. It might as well. But like I said, things did blow up here in US last year and also 12 years ago, and if someone wanted to, they would do it again, because our dear doughnut-eating cops are too busy shooting up kids playing with airsoft guns.

Am I too worked up about this? You bet your @ss I am. But that's just how I roll.
