It makes more sense now. Callahan and Backes are similar enough that I don't think we'd want to pay him that kind of money.

That there's cheaper options in Hartford who will do the same exact job. He might just be preparing himself emotionally for the inevitable loss of Cally, or he might actually honestly believe that. In any event, I don't buy it. He's a clear upgrade over Stewart, imo. If the trade starts getting crazy and more bodies have to go to the Rangers then no franking way. But if it could be Stewart and maybe a conditional draft pick, then absolutely.
