WOW!

If we win the Cup this year Great Trade! If we dont idk I think we may have over paid in the draft department, guess we will see who our goalies are in 2015-16.

Anyone want to buy a Halak jersey

We didn't give up Jaskin, Rattie, Edmundson. We got rid of Stew. We didn't give up Jake Allen.

Worst thing we gave up was a 1st rounder.

I call it a success for now. Obviously this deal will be judged on if we make a run at Lord Stanley.

How we gave BUF NO big name players from the farm or the roster is f******** is amazing.

Agreed. Here's how I see it.

Miler for Halak: We gain at least a little this year. If we can re-sign him (and I've gotta think that's the plan), we potentially gain a lot.
Ott for Stewart: We gain a lot.

Carrier, 2 draft picks: I don't know much about Carrier, but this seems reasonable to me. Only 1 first rounder. A third rounder a couple of years from now. I'm OK with that sacrifice to take a shot at a Cup run. I don't know enough about Ott to know if we gave up more than we got in return. I'm guessing we did because that's how buying at the deadline works. But, not by a lot I don't think.

Thats what I was getting at and for all we know that 3rd round could be conditional in some way full details are not out yet.

Hockey futures has the William Carrier fellow as a 7.0 D - meaning he projects as a second line player, but is unlikely to hit that potential. He's more likely to be a guy that fights for the fourth line or never sees the NHL.

I am not sure I wanted Steve Ott. I feel like we gave Stewart away in that deal - which I know many won't mind - but I think he had some more value that could have been realized in another deal. We will never know.

So who wants to give odds that Elliot will move at the deadline as well?

I'm actually happy to get Ott. I think he'll be an upgrade over Stewart. If nothing else, he will add a veteran presence that I really doubt Stewart brings to the locker room.

I don't think Elliott will be traded because:

1. That means Allen is sitting on the bench in STL instead of playing in Chicago.
2. If Miller gets hurt (god forbid), that would put Allen as our 1st string goalie with I don't even know who as our backup. That would be a disaster come the playoffs.

Dang. Just...dang.

I guess it's Stanley Cup or bust now. I mean, I hope we can resign Miller and really make this worthwhile...but wow. I like the Stewart-for-Ott part.

Stewart looks better on paper than Ott does in points, but he leads Buffalo is face off wins and hits and Buffalo sucks this year so we probally are not seeing his whole value, Ott will probally be better in the Hitchcock system.

Booomstick!!! Now all we need is freaking flashchat to get fixed!!!!!!

Would've rather had Moulson but I'll take Ott. I hate to see Stewart go, but I don't think he was ever going to blossom in St. Louis and he's in the East, so we don't see much of them.

Maybe Curt will come back now that there is MORE breaking national news about the St. Louis Blues!

I couldn't be happier.
I wanted Miller on this team...and I wanted Stewart gone. :okman:

I don't see it as the Blues "going all in" as some have said...that implies you are putting a lot at risk and if they don't win the cup, they are screwed. They didn't really put anything at risk. They didn't give up any top prospects or any key players off the roster...aside from Halak, but we upgraded at Halak's position.

The only thing they gave up that I wish they didn't have to, was the 1st round pick in 2015, but I'm fine with it.

This is a home run for the Blues, as Kerber put it on KMOX a bit ago. Home F'ing Run.

So, apparently Kevin Miller is his cousin. Small world.

I'm excited about getting Miller. Did we give up too much? I guess time will tell, but isn't it nice to know we have a GM that understands the teams greatest obstacle to the Stanley Cup, and is aggressive in fixing the problem?

This trade also gives me a chance to post one of the funniest hockey stories I've seen all year.
