Pierre LeBrun tweeted Vanek also on the way to LAK. Not sure how much I buy that after he tweeted that Ducks got Kesler from Canucks this morning. I haven't seen that from anyone else since.

I do know there was a Lebrun-copycat account out there tweet a bunch of stuff that got picked up and retweeted. It may have been from that one.

There are still some big names that were rumored to be on the block sitting out there with about 30 minutes left.

I really think we are completely done. Wouldn't shock me if the Blues already went to lunch.

Dear Blues PR people -

Don't post shit about Schnuck VIP Prize Packs on Facebook on deadline day... going to give someone a heart attack thinking there was a trade.

Burnside doesn't think Gaborik will do much for LA; I agree.

Burnside wrote:Historically, Gaborik simply isn't a guy who brings his game come playoff time. In his last 31 postseason games, he has six goals, none on the power play.

Is it possible he could somehow channel the Marian Gaborik of 2003, when he scored nine times in 18 games for a surprising Minnesota Wild team? Sorry. This isn't a Harry Potter movie. You don't get to turn back time -- and in our view, time has passed Gaborik by.

Trades aren't always revealed before the deadline. Thats just when they have to be submitted to the front office. Many times the news breaks hours later.

So, did Halak and Stewart stay in Buffalo? That really surprises me (unless I missed something).

Nobody wanted Chris Stewart for their playoff push?

I guess Washington decided they didn't want to get beat by Jaro again...

Interesting day. I'm not sure any of our direct competition really did anything super amazing. I'm ok that the Blues were quiet. They made their splash with Miller. Hopefully everyone can just focus on getting things kicked into playoff gear and put all the trades and everything behind them. Looking forward to some good hockey to close out the season.

Chris Stewart and twenty bucks to IHOP for a stack of pancakes with a side of hash browns and a cup of coffee. Total overpayment.

Oh, OK. That makes more sense. I couldn't believe the Sabres would trade that biggest asset for a UFA that likely wouldn't be back if they weren't going to move him right away.

I think tonight is Tim Thomas bobblehead night in Florida. That's pretty funny.

Lee Stempniak was traded to the Penguins for a 3rd rounder....that's it? We could have done that.
I miss Stempniak.

I don't.

He's had a great career for as low as he was drafted (5th round), but he's not an upgrade for the role he would play on this team.

He hasn't scored 20 goals in the last four seasons and is a career -41. Not a good fit.

I suspect our cap situation prevented further moves today for the Blues. Any of the offensive punch that was out there to be had came with more salary than we could logistically afford without giving up a contract. I don't see us moving bigger cogs at this point.

I wouldn't be shocked to see some "hockey trade" in the off season tho...

I liked Stempniak, but I agree that he wouldn't be an upgrade. When we traded him, I thought it was too bad he wouldn't be around, but thought he would be easy to replace. I pretty much viewed him as a throw in for the trade. He'd be kinda like Chris Porter now IMO. I like Porter. But, I don't want him dressing over anybody in our top 12.

I hope he takes that as a wakeup call (again). It's gotta be a shot to the ego for a Cup contender to think your expendable in a win-now move. It's gotta be a double-shot to the ego for not a single other playoff contender in the league (talking ~2/3 of the league here when you factor in playoff bubble teams) to want you. He's young enough that he could salvage a very good career. I hope he does because he has a ton of talent.
