You missed the point. I don't wish injury on anyone and that includes Backes. On the contrary I would rather see him recover and play again and be healthy than risk his career or life attempting a quick comeback just cause it's playoff time. I don't know about you but I value my life more than any championship. And yes I am a Hawks fan.

Kerfuffle wrote:One hard hit and he could be gone a lot longer than the playoffs. Teams are always secretive during the playoffs cause they don't want to tip their game plan to the opponent. Even in the Finals last year both us and the Bruins had guys with broken bones, collapsed lungs, etc still playing and nothing was revealed until after the series was over.
This is not new information. Everyone knows that stuff goes on.
Players playing with those types of injuries (broken bones and such) is just a matter of playing through the pain. A concussion is a different story. Your career could be over if you play with a concussion...which is why he won't be playing if he is still suffering symptoms.

Backes wasn't on the ice for the morning skate, so it looks like he is out...or possibly a game time decision. Duncan Keith didn't skate either, but Coach Q says he'll play.

I think it's pretty safe to assume that when Backes does return, he'll be healthy enough to do so.
He is a big part of the core of this team, and the franchise simply won't risk that. Same with Oshie.

If he does come back for game #4 or #5, you can safely assume he is legitimately good to go. Speculating that they are bringing him back too soon is...well...weird, considering you didn't examine Backes, nor have you seen the doctor's report or his concussion test results.

The Mayo Clinic says that mild concussions typically take approx. 6 days for the brain to fully heal. Yes, every case is different, but that is the general/average number. If Backes returns for game #5, that will have been 6 days. So there you go.

If he's back tonight then myself and I suspect others will think he sold that 'concussion' to the refs to get a powerplay for his team. I believed when I saw him stood up that he was in bad shape - he looked out of it and it was scary. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt but I've seen guys in hockey or other sports fake it and I find it to be a turnoff.

Ok...that's ridiculous.
If he was faking, why miss OT and the next game?

Suspect all you like. He wasn't/isn't faking. I feel stupid for having to say that.

Don't feed the trolls curt. You should see some of the things I wrote to respond to him.

Too bad Morrow is out. He's been there before and adds much needed grit.

If you didn't mean "fake it", then you should have phrased your comment better.

There's no way Backes was faking it. When he stood up he looked like an alcohol poisoned/stoned teenager out there trying pointlessly to steady himself. Maybe, MAYBE it wasn't a concussion and he just got knocked out harder than hell, but if he was faking it then he wouldn't have, as Curt said, missed OT and game 3.

He wasn't back, so we can put that nonsense to bed. But, if he was, it would not in any way be indicative that he was faking it. This is not an intelligent post.
