So, Army apparently alluded to Lehtera centering Schwartz and Senko.

So your lines could look like this:

20-26-42
9-Lehtera-91
21-17-74

That's actually pretty legit.

If Lehtera is better than Roy was for us, then I'm happy with those lines.

I think Army is blowing smoke to hype someone for a trade. So confident that Lehtera is a 2nd-line NHL center that they're going to move Backes back to the wing? I kinda doubt it.

Alexander Steen / Paul Stastny / David Backes
Jaden Schwartz / Jori Lehtera / Vladimir Tarasenko
Dmitrij Jaskin / Vladimir Sobotka / T.J. Oshie
Ryan Reaves / Joakim Lindstrom / Maxim Lapierre
Chris Porter / Magnus Paajarvi

Alex Pietrangelo / Jay Bouwmeester
Kevin Shattenkirk / Carl Gunnarsson
Barret Jackman / Jordan Leopold
Ian Cole

This is kinda what I'm expecting now Lappy maybe switched with Jaskin

I still think we are going to trade Berg and unless we pair someone with him it looks like picks or prospects.

I would be ok with Paajarvi being traded not sure what he is worth to any one else though. I'm on the fence with Lapierre though somedays I like him some days I don't lol.

But pairing either of them with berg for 1 producing winger and a late pick would be nice

Why did you fix the thread title, Jesus??? Was the presence of a T in Paul Stastny's name as alien to you as the Arch on the third jersey?

First heard about the Spezza deal on the radio before 12EST and kinda lost it. I was honestly pissed. It took next to nothing for the Stars to get Spezza and I have a hard time believing that we weren't willing to offer more than some junk prospects and a 2nd round pick. I know, I know "it's only for one year" but from a sheer talent standpoint I still feel Spezza is more dangerous a player than Stastny is. And his stats would agree with me.

BUT

We needed (keyword needed) another center to add some serious depth and we just did that without giving up anything more than salary. I don't know that Stastny is a true #1 but he's going to be there. Better than Backes I think though and a better matchup than him as well. Overall I'm pumped we got one of the two but I'm disappointed we didn't land Spezza. Especially at $7 million a year. That's kind of a brutal cap hit. We definitely overpaid but if that's what it took to get him in the 'note then I guess had to be done.

I was upset too but after hearing how Spezza has to get his back worked on after every game I've changed my mind about him. He could be a real liability in the future. Stastny was the best available and we got him. I was hoping we would get another winger too but so far that's a no go hopefully we still can get one.

I don't think we overpaid. I'm not sure what other teams offered, but it was more than the Blues offered.
Maybe if we were the highest bidder you could argue we overpaid, but other teams offered more so if anything, we got a bit of a deal based on the market.
It's also nice that it is only a 4 year deal. If things don't work out, it's not a lengthy contract we're locked in to...and if Stastny ever does request a trade, the years and salary should make it easy to move him.

And like you said...it only cost us money. So that makes the signing that much better...it means our team is better and deeper.

We added a #1 center and another center they are high on to plug in as the third line center, without losing anyone off of the roster.

Now, if they can move Berglund for something to improve the team, this could be a perfect offseason...assuming Gunnarsson works out well here.

One thing I think was cool of Army was he asked Backus and Steen about paying Stastny more than them and they said do what's best for the team to win. I heard that on the NHL network from Army in an interview. Good to see he didn't want to rock the boat. This makes this an even better signing which was already fantastic. Good job Army.

First off, I'm with the herd here...this was an exciting day. However, the bitter brigade is out in full force. This is a quote from a gentleman (and I use that term loosely) with the name of Harrison Mooney from Puck Daddy:
Pardon the truism, but that's a lot of money. It's a lot of money for a guy that was never really worth the $6.6 million cap hit on the deal he had in Colorado over the last five years. And it's a lot of money for a guy that really only started to look even close to worth it in the playoffs, while skating alongside wingers superior to the ones he'll have in St. Louis.

Now please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think MacKinnon and Landeskog were his linemates in Denver. A couple great, young players who both scored over 20 goals on Paul's line. However, if we take our boy Army's word for it (and a couple of you have already posted this) 26 could center 42 and 20. Now I know his former teammates are very young with high ceilings, and Backes/Steen are getting long in the tooth. But if they had stayed healthy, Steen could have gotten 40, and the captain 30. Boy, those guys suck. Stastny will surely regress playing with those turds.

Drop the mother futtin puck already.

PS A big thank you to ownership for paying the man. I'll abandon my Scrooge mentality and open the wallet for a few more games this year. :cup:

Overpay or not, you've gotta pay to get these guys if you don't draft them. It's what you have to do. The plus side is that it's only 4 years. We're not stuck with an albatross of a contract for 7-8 years like some of these teams (or 10 years in the case of Ehrhoff's deal...gag).

Yeah, Cole > Leopold. Not sure why he'd be penciled in at #7.

I really really like that 2nd line. I know Lehtera has zero NHL experience but he's played and played well at a nearly equally high level and has chemistry with Tarasenko. That line could be something special.

However... Who is this Backus you speak of? Is he as good as Backes?

Backes and Steen are still improving, or at least should be. If I were them, I'd work with Hull or someone else, learning how to get into open areas of the ice and a how to develop a quicker release.

or they can just sit on their asses, rake in the dough and then retire Cup-less in several years.

GO BIG OR GO HOME, YOU PANSIES.
