ST. LOUIS – Blues goaltender Brian Elliott sustained a lower-body injury in the second period Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators.
He left the game and did not return.
General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Wednesday the club has recalled goaltender Jordan Binnington from the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves under emergency conditions.
Binnington, 21, has made nine appearances for the Wolves this season, posting a 6-2-1 record, while his 1.89 goals against average ranks third and his .925 save percentage is 12th in the AHL overall.
Binnington was originally drafted by the Blues in the third round (88th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

My first thought when I saw Elliott chuck his stick last night was that Allen just got his first real chance to emerge as a number 1. I don't know if that will actually happen, but it seems possible.
Hopefully Elliott isn't hurt bad though. Sounds like it's going to be relatively short term though which is nice.

I don't like us looking "outside" for help in the net. You let go of Halak, Miller, and Allen in the last couple years. I was pretty sure they would have a plan in place for something like this.
I don't want to trade stuff for "veteran backups" at all.
Let's hope Allen can carry the load and Elliot is back quickly.
I hope this isn't an indicator that Ell's injury is worse than they are saying. Marty would be great for Allen and Binnington to learn from, but I think him getting any gametime action would be a desperation move.
