New logo and new branding for the Islanders...for next season.
‘Brooklyn Hockey’: Barclays Center trademarks new logos before Islanders’ arrival next season
http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/brook ... xt-season/

The New York Islanders aren’t about to give up their franchise’s name when the team moves to Brooklyn next season. However, it looks as if the team will have a third jersey that fits in with the colors of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets – and that doesn’t include “Islanders” on it.
As evidence, consider that the Barclays Center has recently applied for trademarks on new logos, both of which only use the phrase “Brooklyn Hockey”, while using a black-and-white that match the Nets’ uniforms: (Via The Sporting News and Nets Daily)

First thought was the Bruins logo, don't like it....Guess I'll have to see the jersey though.

Not to rain on the parade, but Deadspin got a response on this:

Update: We were sent this comment from Barry Baum, Chief Communications Officer of Barclays Center:

"We have a platform at Barclays Center for each of our non-core tenant businesses, including BROOKLYN HOOPS for college basketball, BROOKLYN BOXING for boxing, BROOKLYN SHOW for concerts, and BROOKLYN FAMILY for family entertainment. BROOKLYN HOCKEY is our latest platform, which includes NCAA college hockey that will be staged at the venue. This is not an Islanders logo and has no connection to the Islanders. As promised, we are keeping the current Islanders logo and color scheme, while adding a black and white third jersey."

This is new news to me, not sure if this was said before.

Beaten to it but yeah, this isn't necessarily going to be used on Islanders jerseys/merchandise. Giving up the Islanders name makes no sense. Could definitely see a black & white third jersey as, yeah, would be nice for the venue to link up the brands of their marquee tenants.

There's no need to give up the name. Brooklyn is geographically part of Long Island. Try to convince a lot of Brooklyn and Queens folks that though, they'll jump down your throat.

Twitter is almost worse than Facebook. I have had an "stlblues" feed set up in Tweetdeck for a long time...holy hell it can be awful.

I find it's people outside of NYC who can not comprehend this idea.
