Police in Hamburg, NY, are investigating an incident involving Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane, according to the Buffalo News. However, police aren't talking about the alleged incident or Kane's possible involvement.

Two sources said Hamburg police officials have forbidden their officers and detectives from publicly discussing the investigation.

"We can neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence of a criminal investigation until such a time as a person is charged with a crime," said Hamburg Police Chief Gregory G. Wickett.

Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III used very similar language when asked about an investigation.

"We neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence of an investigation until such time as someone has been charged with a crime," Sedita said.

According to the News no charges have been filed and it is unclear if Kane has been questioned by police.

It is difficult to know at this time exactly what happened and to what level, if at all, Kane was involved.

The Blackhawks star has run into trouble with the law before, as Kane pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, a noncriminal violation, after an altercation with a taxicab driver in 2009. Kane had also come under criticism for excessive partying earlier in his career. That came to a head after unflattering photographs and rumors surfaced out of a weekend Kane spent in Madison, Wis., in 2012. Following that incident, the Blackhawks publicly expressed their disappointment in the forward and Kane expressed his embarrassment, but no criminal charges stemmed from that.

Since the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season, when Kane spent the first half of the year playing in Switzerland before the NHL returned, there had been no known issues.

Kane is set to begin the first season of his eight-year, $84 million contract extension signed last summer.

I am hearing it is over a rape allegation. Granted, the source for this info hasn't provided any evidence to support the claim...so we'll see if that is true or not.

Even if it's rape allegations, it's pathetic that in today's day and age that at times it HAS happened where a woman makes allegations to get money, attention, etc. Or Kane could be a rapist.

You just never know the whole story with these kinds of things.

Unless and until criminal charges are filed there's no way to know anything.

Well...let's just to conclusions...

A woman that Kane was with at a bar has reported something Kane did to the police.
They are investigating the report to see if charges need to be filed.
The rumor flying around is that he is being accused of rape.

If this is true, what do the Hawks do? Do they waive him?
I'm sure there is something in his contract that will allow the Hawks to get out from under his massive contract if he is indeed found guilty of rape. I'm almost certain there is.
And as far as hockey talk goes, if they dump Kane...the Hawks will have lost Saad, Sharp and Kane this offseason. Ouch.

But hopefully it's something much less serious that he is being accused of and the initial report from the Buffalo reporter is wrong. We'll see.

I'd like to see Patrick Kane crumble and fall as much as anyone here (with the exception of Kerfuffle) but not at the expense of someone else. Were he being investigated for a victimless crime, I'd feel a lot better about this. I feel worse for the woman that had to go through this, if the allegations are accurate, than I feel happiness at the suffering of the Blackhawks because of it.

Yeah...it doesn't look good for Kane right now.
I guess this woman could be looking for attention and everything that is going on could be all standard protocol. But man...
But seriously...we're talking about Patrick Kane here...someone who has been in trouble with the law before and who has used very poor judgement before in doing some very stupid and embarrassing things publicly.
So is anyone that overly surprised by this? I mean, if you would have been asked to pick someone in the NHL would would seem the most likely to commit a horrible act like rape, I'm betting Patrick Kane is going to be up there on most lists. He loves to party too much and get stupid drunk and do stupid things and he is quite the asshole...and when you combine that with women throwing themselves at him. It's just not surprising to be perfectly honest.

If he did rape that woman...he should never play in the NHL again. I'm already biased against the guy of course...I can't stand him...but still.
