NHLcom and NHL.TV re-design

Anyone else looked at this. What do you think?

I have several negative opinions right now, but want to hear what others think. However, here are 3 dislikes off the top.

1) For the Roku, to reach the game one wants to see, you have to slow scroll through the games being televised, instead of being able to little windows of all the games and rapidly scrolling to the one you want to watch. IE you only see a window of one game at a time and have to scroll, wait, scroll, wait, scroll, wait. If one looks at the game scores window, that's what selecting a game to watch used to look like. Why they made this change - I have no idea. They could at least have whichever teams is your favorite, which they track, show up first, instead of having to scroll through and hope your game is next. Not lots of time wasted, just slower than it used to be.

2) Tons of wasted space around the central page of NHL.com

3) Tons more ads with a video link for every main article, instead of a short list of articles you can easily see on the home page.

Just a start. Yuck!!! is all I will say for now. Former site was way better in terms of ease of use and providing information at a glance. This seems to be the trend for websites these days. Take something which works and is useful and make you look at all kinds of crap you don't want to see, instead.

Video looked great! For 2 periods. Haven't been able to watch the 3rd at all.

There are multiple Roku's in the house. Couldn't get the 3rd period on any of them and it won't load on the laptop either. Grrrr.....

And it ain't the my network. 45M down as of 10:15 ET, every other streaming app (checked 4 of them) were working fine, and only stuff after 9:45ish ET wouldn't load for any active game. Kept popping up "network error." Phone call time tomorrow.

Not a big fan of NHL.com page... But I'm sure it will just take some getting used to.

Couldn't get it to work on my mac. At times, even NHL.com wouldn't load. Might have something to do with the proxy service I use. Obviously, as soon as I turned off the proxy, I got the "local blackout" restriction.

It wouldn't play for me on the Roku or my computer at all last night. I called tech support. "Are you stuck in the login loop? Yeah, we know about that. We're working as fast as we can to resolve it." So there's no way I can watch hockey tonight? "Nope." Can I get a credit or something for this bullshit? "Maybe. Call back tomorrow and hopefully we'll have it fixed by then."

The old Gamecenter Live interface sucked, but at least I could watch the game...

:fight:

Bunch of crap. Couldn't watch the game again. Got stuck in the login loop. I think it has to do with the stream being gone right after the game is over. I had hoped that the MLBAM team would fix that problem. I managed to watch the highlights one at a time, which is tedious. Wish they would fix this BS. I thought MLBAM would make things better, not worse.

I haven't had any issues watching.
Not sure why...but not going to question it much. 8)

After the first night screw up.... everything works great. Video quality is clearly better.

Still hate the NHL.com website design changes, though. It seems to be the new wave of change - use more bandwidth and make people waste more time on a site to get the information they want, instead of keeping it simple like it was before.

Called tech support again last night and got my problems straightened out. The problem turned out to be that I don't have a subscription, so I've been getting the games for free all year! Apparently the switch to NHL.TV fixed the glitch.

I had Gamecenter last season, and it auto-renewed for this year. But I called them up and changed from the full package to the single-team deal. I didn't realize that they gave me a refund but never charged me for the new package, and it was working all year until the changeover. So I bought the remainder of the season package, and I'm good to go now.

So since the fam and I relocated back to the STL area, we have decided not to get cable. In the past, I could watch games on the computer with Gamecenter/NHL TV with no problem. But, now I am local, that's out the window. Should I set up a proxy in order to be able to watch the games? Any suggestions? Or is there a better method out there?

hockeystreams.net was popular, but was shut down after the launch of nhl.tv.

And with the way I registered for NHL Gamecenter, I was able to watch local games, but not after the switch to nhl.tv.

So it looks like they really cracked down and closed some holes.

I used to recommend the Hola Chrome extension when using NHL.tv to watch local games. But that extension is apparently not secure at all. I used it in the past with no issues, but have since uninstalled it. It's a shame...it worked great. And it worked great after the switch to nhl.tv. So, if you don't care about security or malware or people using your network to do shady stuff...by all means, use that. ;)
Here is a discussion on Hola:
https://www.reddit.com/r/NHLStreams/com ... la_so_bad/

Sites that review/rate VPN's:
https://vpnreviewz.com/best-vpn-for-windows/
http://www.bestvpnprovider.com/

Some alternative paid VPN's:
If I ever use a VPN again, I think it will be a paid VPN. Here are a couple:

https://www.purevpn.com - if you buy a year's subscription, it's just over $4/month.

https://www.ipvanish.com - A bit more expensive than purevpn, but they promise super fast speeds.

The Tor browser is apparently a relatively safe way to browse anonymously, but it doesn't seem to be compatible with nhl.tv. At least it wasn't when I tried it. And I heard streaming HD using it is a nightmare as it runs really choppy.

I've heard there is a subreddit that streams games that people can use. A few people I know have mentioned using it. I think this is it: https://www.reddit.com/r/NHLStreams/
They post links to online streams of games. But if you are like me, and want to watch a game after it is over (I generally watch via DVR after the kids are in bed and the wife and I have finished watching a show or two), I don't think these help you any. Which is why I have NHL.tv, and will try a paid VPN if I ever decide to watch local games again on it.

There is also this: https://unlocator.com/channel/nhl-tv/
Which I have heard good things about.

If anyone uses any VPN's, please report back with how it worked out.

I used the reddit one- worked pretty well, I would say.
