Steen out for a month (at least)

"GLENDALE - Blues forward Alexander Steen has been placed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury.

He will be re-evaluated in four weeks.

Steen's injury occurred with 12:52 remaining in the first period Saturday night in Arizona. Steen was hit by Coyotes defenseman Kevin Connauton in his own zone and landed awkwardly as he fell to the ice and into the boards. Steen got up immediately under his own power but left for the locker room."

If all these injuries were during the playoffs. yes, being cursed applies. As it stands, everyone should be available in April when it really matters.

That was my first thought when I heard he would be out for 4 weeeks. "At least it's on February 21 and not March 21"

Wish I had your confidence. Being reevaluated doesn't necessarily mean they'll be back. And now it seems there's no where to turn in terms of a trade. Which may be a good thing.

Let's see how much TOI Fabbri gets next game. He should be slotted directly into the top 6.

You guys are ignoring the gain that the Blues can get out of this. The injury happened before the trade deadline. If I'm Armstrong I do this:

1) Put Steen on LTIR immediately and free up his cap space
2) Use the extra money to go pick up another forward before the 2/29 trade deadline.
3) Then when the playoffs start around 4/15 - you reactivate Steen (assuming he's ready) and now you've got BOTH Steen and the new acquisition. Overall this is an incredible opportunity for Armstrong to add fire power to the roster. We used this successfully last season with Kane and Vermette and may do the same thing this year since Hossa is out.

Since Paajarvi hasn't been sent down, Hithcock will probably throw him on top line again even though it's a complete waste offensively and defensively.

Nope, Hitch going to throw Paajarvi out there with Backes and Berglund. Backes has played with the scrubs this entire season (minus this recent stretch with Steen). Everyone complaining about Backes' numbers being down just aren't looking at the complete picture.
