Fabbri injured... again

Too soon to say he's made of glass? This doesn't bode well.

I have hopes it's nothing too serious since he's being re-evaluated in 10 days and they only announced he's missing the rest of training camp. I would think if it was something serious and known they would've just said so. Crossing my fingers. This sucks.

Yea, Blues posted on their Facebook page he's out for the year.

At this point it's a hope that this doesn't end his career. Very sad. Sucks.

Not only is this a raging bucket of suck, it's also doubtful he'll be the same when he gets back, if he gets back.

At a time like this I'm thankful we seem to have some viable depth that can step in. Thompson probably makes the team for sure now, and I was already thinking Blais might too.

It sounds as if the Blues have signed Upshall to a 1 year, $800K contract that might be announced today.

I don't hate this. It's definitely the safe move, because we know about what we'll get from him. But I was excited about a young guy getting a shot. What I would like to see is Upshall being the press box guy that's there essentially as a safety net in case somebody like Thompson or Blais doesn't look like they're ready.

More on Upshall, and potentially... Jagr?

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/possible-b ... 06888.html
With a rash of injuries, the St. Louis Blues are making at least one move to improve their depth at forward, as reporters including Sportsnet’s Rick Dhaliwal indicate that they’re bringing back Scottie Upshall.

Upshall, 33, had been with the Vancouver Canucks on a PTO. There were rumblings that something was in the works when Upshall was scratched in favor of Anton Rodin on Thursday.

Do note that the Upshall signing isn’t official, especially according to the Canucks organization.

You might call this Upshall’s second stint with St. Louis, but that’s really a matter of semantics. He just concluded two seasons with the Blues, including 2016-17, when he scored 18 points. The sixth pick of the 2002 NHL Draft has settled into a role as an energy guy in the NHL, and he provides some familiar insurance.

Of course, the question is: would this hurt the chances of Jaromir Jagr signing with the Blues? The team acknowledged considering signing Jagr, though they also want to make sure he’s a stylistic fit. Upshall has already played with this group, so that’s not as much of a mystery.

This isn’t to say that Upshall cancels out a Jagr signing altogether, though. With Robby Fabbri out for the season, Zach Sanford missing possibly that much (if not close), Patrik Berglund out months, and Alex Steen likely to start on IR, it’s perfectly reasonable to imagine the Blues bringing in Jagr and Upshall.

We’ll just have to wait and see. In this case, Upshall’s a lower-risk, lower-reward pickup for the Blues.

No big issue with Upshall; we all know what he brings for a 4th liner. But they skated these line in practice today per Rutherford:

Schwartz-Stastny-Tarasenko
Sobotka-Schenn-Blais
Jaskin-Barbashev-Brodziak
Upshall/Kostin-Megan-Thorburn

This bodes well for Blais and Megan, but that 3rd line is pretty ugly. And this freaking Thorburn guy...Won't start crying until I see who Steen bumps out.

Bluuues hockey.

Thorburn is basically the Ryan Reaves replacement. Rather see skill there. Let Edmundson be the goon.

Fabbri injured... again

Post by Toasted Oates »

Yeah, Thorburn sucks.

If you are are going to send Thompson and Kostin down, even with all these injuries, signing Jagr would make sense. Then when Steen comes back you could go:

Schwartz-Stastny-91
Steen-Schenn-Jagr
Sobotka-Barbashev-Blais
Jaskin-Megan-Upshall

That's not so bad. Plus, Jagr as a Blue...not even the most cantankerous of Blues fans can deny that'd be cool.

The bad part too is it will be 18-24 months total time out of the NHL with most of that unable to skate. My kids play and they say if they don't skate for a month or two they notice it on the ice in terms of leg strength. 18-24 months could end his career.
