From JR's Q&A on The Athletic yesterday

A Sanford-Thomas-Kyrou 4th line has me salivating. Any chance in hell it happens?

@Michael C. That would be pretty intriguing, but as I've said in the past, I'll believe the Blues are going to change the look of their fourth line when they actually do it. Coaches talk about it, but when it comes down to it, they stick with the energy players who are typically veterans. Keep in mind, if you make the roster as a fourth-liner, you have to be able to play special teams, usually PK. It's like making an NFL team as the 3rd string running back; you better be able to play on the kickoff unit. That has been the case in St. Louis the past few years with Upshall and Brodziak and usually it's the same thing across the league. So do the Blues trust Sanford and Kyrou on the PK? We'll see.
My response to this would be - given how dynamic and successful Kyrou and Thomas were as a pair on the PK at Traverse City, they should be given the opportunity, including being on the Blues PK. Unfortunately, the Blues have a head coach who seems to decide whether or not players can succeed on the PK based on a mystery formula none of us know, instead of based on how the players were used or performed as they developed or even what they were doing in the AHL.

That mystery formula does involve being 1) a veteran or 2) a defensive, grinder, 3rd/4th line, non-scoring specialist, as far as I can tell.
