Don Sweeney on David Backes

Post by cprice12 »

Don Sweeney on David Backes:
After speaking with David, we have agreed that it is in the best interest of David & the Bruins for him not to play in Providence at this time.
"David is fit and able to play, but in order to preserve all potential options for both David and the Bruins moving forward, we have decided this is the best course of action.”

Bruins are not going to play Backes in the AHL in preparation to buy him out this summer.

Sad that it's come to this but utterly expected. The hard way he plays the game made this "pass" by Armstrong one of the best "no signings" in his tenure as GM.

Still one of my favorite Blues of all time.

A buyout makes sense for the Bruins actually, they'd get $2 million in immediate cap relief for next year and he'd only cost them $1 million as a cap hit for '21-'22. Bruins definitely have options if they can't find a dance partner to take the whole cap hit.
