Some honorable (Rowin Atkinson) additions to the silly comedy list:
"Johny English" - a spy spoof that's actually funny
"Keeping Mum" - off the wall dark comedy I'd have thought to be a Cohen

I'd forgotten all about that movie Brotherhood of the Wolf. I remember that the previews looked awesome, but I missed it in theaters and finally caught it on DVD but was less than impressed. Mani kicked ass, and there were some hot french women, but I don't remember much else about it.

Can't believe I forgot UHF before. And nearly every Mel Brooks movie qualifies for the comedy list: Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, History of the World Part I, Young Frankenstein, etc.

I'm really not much of a movie buff, but some movies that have stood out in my mind:

History of the World
Animal House
Goonies
Shawshank Redemption
Crash
Snatch
Lock, Stock, and 2 Smoking Barrels
Greenstreet Houligans
The Notebook (I cried like a little bitch.)
American Pies
Matrix
Strange Brew

Nobody mentioned The Usual Suspects...surprising. Another great one with a good ending, especially if you are old enough to remember the Cold War is No Way Out with Kevin Costner, and a not-yet bipolar Sean Young.

Other favorites include Saving Private Ryan, Pulp Fiction, Boogie Nights...

Guilty pleasure in the hockey movie department is of course Youngblood. God love Cynthia Gibb...

Agree -- a huge oversight on my part. I may only beg humbly for your forgiveness.

Motha*ucka, slap yo'self.
No shit...

Waukee, why does it not surprise me that you think it is "God-awful"?

I think Goon kinda nailed it- it must just be one of those that you have to watch over and over and then start quoting all the time and that makes it more funny I guess... I donno, I thought it was terrible.

In memory of Roy Scheider's passing, even though I think the movie has already been mentioned, I'll list Jaws again. One of these days I'll sue TBS and TNT for having that damn movie on every week - if I flip there and start watching, I'll inevitably watch the rest of the show.

Trivia factoid - who here has read the book and/or knew that Hooper died in the book (shark crunch cage, shark eat Hooper) and the shark just up and dies, then sinks, instead of getting kablooied with the scuba tank?

I read the book when I was 11. Chapter 8 was my favorite.

I forget how they kill the shark though. There was a good reason...

The girlfriend made me watch Stardust with her last night. Better than I thought! It was pretty funny for a fantasy movie.

Not that it's one of my all-time favoristes or anything. Just saying, it's pretty good.

I had heard that somewhere before.

Another Jaws Trivia Factoid -- Who here knew that the actor who played the television reporter that was reporting from the beach in the movie "...a cloud, in the shape, of a killer shark." ...was the actual author of the book?
