Goes without saying that next game is a big one.
As to Pujols: Definitely understand what you guys are saying but (and this is also from an outside fan looking in) he IS the Cardinals. I know you "have other players" and whatnot but there IS a value to a guy who is pretty much THE franchise, and the face of it as well. Beyond the stats, beyond the performance, that has a value in and of itself.
But I definitely hear where you guys are coming from and especially if the years on the contract weren't right, I wouldn't even mess with it at that point if you think you're going to be putting him on waivers or buying him out when he's only halfway through his contract.
I really liked what the Brewers did with Fielder this year in just signing him to a one year deal just to put off the inevitable and at least make one more go at it. We also aren't capable of affording him next year so there's that too
but you guys think Pujols would even CONSIDER a one year deal? Especially if the Cards fall just short this year but keep a lot of the pieces in place around him?
