Lackey was nails last night. Exactly what we needed. Going in, I felt that game 1 winner would win the series, so hopefully that holds true.

Game 2: Garcia vs Hendricks favors us pretty heavily
Game 3: Arrieta is Arrieta
Game 4: Lynn vs Hammel(?) should favor us
Game 5: Lackey vs Lester is another tossup, but we might not need it

We pretty much handed game 2 to Chicago. The only runs that the scored where the ball didn't leave the infield was the 2-run homer...which only happened because an error extended the inning.

And the Cubs fans...man. They think this series is over already.

Smack 'em back and beat Arietta in Chicago. That would them up.

That was an ugly inning. I really thought Garcia would shut em down, but he's probably the biggest reason we lost. That bunt play, ugh.

I remember being a kid and having it hammered into my brain by coaches, "Know what you're going to do with the ball before it's hit to you." Then they bunt it to him, he has the guy dead to rights at home and throws it into RF instead. Physical mistakes are going to happen, but gotta know the first option there is to look home. Drives me insane.

I bet takeout slides will be reevaluated this offseason. 2 playoff teams lost their SS for the year on legal takeout slides, 1 last night, 1 2 weeks before the playoffs (Pirates Kang).

I've always thought takeout slides were a good thing. Make it hard to turn a DP. But, it's starting to get out of control.

Arrieta shall own the Cards tomorrow as he has every opponent since the all-star break ... I smell some Cubbies/Mets NLCS on tap.

Please don't drop the ban hammer, Curt.

I called the Cubs series to a T. Said Cubs in 4 (split in STL, Cubs take 3 and 4) and I even told a coworker yesterday that if Baez started, he'd hit a HR.

And....

Cubs just have a vibe this year, man. This could be the year.

I really hope it's not this year. I can accept them finally winning a title, but I can't accept them ruining a movie series as good as Back to the Future by that prediction coming true. That's where I draw the line.

Joe Maddon, for my money, is the best manager in the bigs. He took a low-budget team like Tampa Bay all the way to the World Series with pitching, defense and no offense whatsoever. Now he has a higher budget team with pitching, defense and incredible young power... if it's not this year, it'll be very soon for the long suffering Cubs fans, and it may well be more than one title. But it's definitely happening. That team is wicked good with a genius at the helm.

I agree. I liked Maddon so much that I was totally in on the idea of the Cardinals firing Mike Matheny (who had just taken his team to it's 3rd consecutive NLCS) to hire Maddon. But really, Maddon is the perfect manager for the Cubs, and specifically, this version of the Cubs.

Also, random, but read a stat this morning that the Cardinals have now been eliminated in 4 consecutive postseasons with 3 straight losses. Games 4, 5, 6 in 2012 NLCS and 2013 World Series, games 3, 4, 5 in 2014 NLCS, and games 2, 3, 4 in 2015 NLDS.

Really, really surprised/impressed with how the Mets (specifically Harvey) handled the moment in Game 1. I had the Cubs in 5, and it's only one game, but the Mets look like they came to play.

Also, this is going to sound humblebraggy but not intended to: it's kind of nice to just enjoy the LCS games without worrying about how it effects my team and who they might play if they move on. Can just watch good baseball with low stakes (for me personally).

We still have 4 more to go before the "pond scum" as you St. Louis folk love to call the Mets are winners, but the pennant is sure a nice start. Thanks, Dmiles.

As an aside, it annoys the living heck out of me that Steve Summers (WFAN) always calls them the Metropolitans. I know that's the official name, but seriously no one calls them that. It's either the Mets or casually the Amazin's.

You know, that 'pond scum' stuff happened when I was 2-3 years old, so I've never had any beef with them. I can't wait to see what Harvery, de Grom, and Syndergaard (sp?) do on the big stage. Honestly, I don't care who wins the WS of the remaining teams left, I just hope for a heckuva good time.

I'm too young for the pond scum stuff too. My roommate grew up as a Mets fan and expects St. Louis to root against the Mets because of the pond scum stuff. I don't think that will be the case.

All set, Mets/Royals. Let's get it on! I read deGrom would go game 1 but then heard Harvey on the radio, so no clue. I'd personally go harvey, matz, syndergaard, degrom. I want syndergaard in a potential game 7. Amongst Mets fans probably not a popular opinion, but also degrom is showing major signs of fatigue. I don't want a tired pitcher pitching twice.

Looks like Syndergaard will get a potential game 7. Harvey, DeGrom, Syndergaard, Matz games 1 through 4.
