The Doors were about as shortlived as the Beatles but you probably wouldn't describe them as such.

Allman Bros...even though I can't stand Greg Allman. Duane Allman and Dickie Betts were awesome.

Texas is hard to call, because I love Pantera and ZZ Top. For this reason, I'll have to consider Pantera a Louisiana band, because I can't choose one of the two to represent Texas. Down has to be high in my running for Louisiana, too.

Metallica for California. Rock would be dead if it wasn't for the Black Album. There, I said it.

I thought rock was dead BECAUSE of the black album.

I blame that on hip hop and St. Anger.

The Black Album certainly killed thrash. Metallica's first 4 albums were great though.

Master of Puppets is very high in the running for best album ever, IMO. Speaking of, for anyone who cares, they've re-released the Metallica vinyls from the first 5 albums. The standard version is a regular half-speed remastered LP, and the special edition is a mastered double vinyl (45rpm).

I'm more partial to the bleak sounds of And Justice for All myself.

Old Metallica, plus the "old" disc of Garage Inc., helped me stain and shellac a crapload of trim and doors and tear out old carpet and trim when we renovated the upstairs a few years back.

ANd Justice For All is an awesome album. It's just too bad that you cannot hear a single note played by Jason Newstead. Guess they were still bitter about Cliff.

As a bass player, that's the only reason I don't like that album. Jason Newstead was a good bassist. To hear people talk, you'd think it was his fault personally that Cliff Burton was dead. I still prefer Master Of Puppets, though.

Illinois: Wilco

Washington: I do like the AIC choice from a grunge perspective, but Modest Mouse has overtaken them overall in my mind.

Texas: Probably a lot of choices, but Explosions In The Sky would be my pick.

I'd have to think that South Carolina goes with the Marshall Tucker Band, but they're the only band I know of from SC.

You've never heard of Nile? Technical death metal with an Egyptian theme. They're very good.

There are so many bands from California to chose from. Slayer and Metallica alone make that state difficult.

Personally, Boxer and Feinstein make that state difficult for me. Oh wait, wrong forum.

FAIL
Agreed- Modest Mouse is mediocre at best.

What's the point of this thread? Everyone's taste in music is subjective anyway, we're just going for who can agree with who the most
