Major League is still funny. <3 Bob Uecker.
Re: new random observation thread
Funny related story, was listening to the news several years back on KOMU in Columbia. It's the student-run TV station that is usually staffed by students, but they have a few "pros" that do the news at night. One of them was talking about some unrest and mentioned Ueckeranians. I paused what I was doing for a minute and tried to decipher what he had said. After figuring out the context, I realized he meant to say Ukrainian but instead invented a country of Bob Ueckers.Blueline29 wrote:Major League is still funny. <3 Bob Uecker.

The Ueckeraine has always been a seething hotbed of unrest, at least in my experience. I used to run with the J-school crowd back in the day at Mizzou....ah, KOMU, I remember it well. Not necessarily fondly, but well.

Re: new random observation thread
There's a guy I see at the light rail station that has Brian Engblom-esque hair. Graying and short at the temples, long and blonde on top and in back, with it all combed straight back to cover (very poorly) his big bald spot. He has an 80s style mustache too. Just awful. I'm really tempted to just grab his arm one day and say, "Dude! The dream is dead. Cut the hair."

I used to think I was invisible when I was little. I am starting to think it might be true...

I try to stay away from wal mart as much as possible but it is right next to my house pretty much in columbia, but any way I believe the frozen tater tots they sell are called potato gems. Maybe it is Gerbes, one of the two anyway.Mellanby_equals_grit wrote:Did you know in Australia they're called "potato gems"?Portland Blues wrote:Tater tots are (Frank) awesome.

Re: new random observation thread
When reading baby books to my son, if they have some little chicks that say "cheep cheep cheep" I always read it "cheep cheep fun fun" instead. My hope is that he will start thinking that little chickens actually say "cheep cheep fun fun" and repeat that at school someday, to the bewilderment of his preschool/kindergarten teachers who will have no idea what he's talking about.

This must be my first time watching Wayne's World since becoming a hockey fan, 'cause I know I never particularly noticed that the cop's name was Officer Koharski before.
God, flashback to freshman year at MU.

I've seen that movie about twenty gazillion times and never noticed that either.. I wonder if it is on purpose.. They do run into him at Stan Makita's.Blueline29 wrote:This must be my first time watching Wayne's World since becoming a hockey fan, 'cause I know I never particularly noticed that the cop's name was Officer Koharski before.

Re: new random observation thread
Given that Mike Myers is a hockey fan, I'd have to think it's on purpose. I mean, it's not like he chose the name "Office Jones" or whatever.Mellanby_equals_grit wrote:I've seen that movie about twenty gazillion times and never noticed that either.. Yeah, I'm in Denver, so nobody will have any idea why my son is quoting Dirt Cheap commercialsPortland Blues wrote:That's hilarious.big d note wrote:When reading baby books to my son, if they have some little chicks that say "cheep cheep cheep" I always read it "cheep cheep fun fun" instead. I think Officer Koharski in Wayne's World was definitely intentional. That movie is one of my all-time favorites. The cameo by Meatloaf is awesome too.
The Shitty Beatles, are they any good?
They suck.
So then it's not just a clever name.

Re: new random observation thread
I wore my lucky Rush t-shirt while watching the playoff-clinching game against the Jackets, so I'm stepping it up a notch and listening to Rush all day today. Just started Different Stages.
I also wore my Vancouver Canada fleece jacket to work today, but I made an X out of tape over the logo.
