Yeah, I don't want to think about that.
I'm praying for a mild winter.

A couple months ago, I was hoping to have the house shelled by December, but we got way behind schedule with the delays on the appraisal of the plans and the stupid builder's risk insurance. It seemed like some of the people handling the paperwork were asleep at the wheel...or just F'ing lazy.
That shit took over a month...and then there were more delays with the rock for the driveway because of the massive 400,000 tons of rock that Conoco Phillips is bringing in for a new coker...or however you spell it. Apparently it was hard for people in the area to get rock for weeks.
Whatever.

I'm just really happy they've started. Better late than never. The bright side is, we'll get to live an extra month without a house payment..save a few more bucks...so that's something.

I was caught off guard today and didn't have a camera. I'll take some pics tomorrow of the progress for the blog.

Sweet. Our foundation walls have been poured. I just hope the curing goes ok with the cold weather we've had.
Things have been moving at a decent pace over the past few weeks...so that's cool.

Once the process got out of the "paperwork stage" and into actual construction, it's been moving much quicker.

I could have killed our appraiser. They held the process up for a few weeks by dragging their feet.

I'm surprised Metallica took them on the road after all the crap Phil Anselmo spewed about them over the years. I wasn't impressed with his shtick at all at the KC show.
He's a lot different than he was 10 years ago. I've met him a few times, and he's never drunk whereas he used to ALWAYS be in the tank. What did he do in KC? I haven't heard...
Just his general stage presence, was kind of "eh" in my opinion.

Finally got to try out the new chainsaw yesterday....
Cut down a few trees & cut 'em up so they'll be nice and dry for the new house and fireplace next winter.
The weather made me feel like I was logging in the northwest....misty, foggy, cloudy and a cool.

The thing cuts like a champ. I was quite impressed. Not bad for $170. :okman:

If the trees you cut down weren't big enough to require splitting, you didn't do jack. :P

The father-in-law and I still have about one pickup load of 100+ year-old hedge apple to split in the spring, fun times...

Most of the logs we cut will require splitting. I think the widest tree was like 16" wide...not huge, but not tiny either.
We'll be renting the splitter after we're done cutting them up.

These are our trees:
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_9c1Rtd698xM/R_h3z ... MG1410.JPG
A handful of dead/dying trees on the left side were taken down, a couple more off the picture to the left...and the ugly-ass thing on the right was taken down as well.
Nothing major.
I'm gratefull they aren't full/sprawling trees. Most of them are tall and straight with thin branches.

Nope, it was a big big hedge apple, also called Osage orange and a few other names. There were four trunks growing off a single rootball, each about 24" to 30" in diameter easily. The shade canopy cast by it was probably over 100' in diameter I'm guessing. It was a fricking awesome tree and I'm sure my boys would have loved climbing it and stuff when they got a little bigger, until...

A few summers back there were a lot of hedge balls on it and combined with the wet weather, two of the four trunks split from the rootball one night. I think I may have heard it, but didn't realize what had happened until I went in the back yard the next morning. Luckily both trunks that fell went away from the fence, but that left the other two huge branches hanging over the fence and they needed to come down. Ended up getting a steal of a deal to have a tree company come and drop those two sections for me for $300. The father-in-law and I spent two days I think sectioning logs and cutting branches. I did nothing but burn branches and twigs one night for something like six hours while it was about 30 degrees outside in the country, pretty awesome actually.

I actually don't mind cutting up trees if you have the proper equipment to make it easier, ie: good chainsaw, splitter, chipper, a few guys to help, etc. I think it's kind of fun.

We took down a pretty massive tree in our backyard in Fairview four or five years ago. It was nowhere as big as the one you cut up...but it was huge nonetheless...just one trunk...it had to be about 26"-18" wide. That tree had two huge limbs fall out of it because the tree was rotting. One was about 8 feet long and must have been 18" in diameter at least and it fell on our fence. The other one was a tad smaller but missed the fence. They fell about six months apart. We have dogs and we're also out in the backyard at times...and I was kind of scared to cut the grass under it. So we took it down. It cost us $600...which we thought was a good price. When the tree was taken down, it took up the entire backyard...and our backyard was a good size.
It was actually quite impressive watching them take the tree down. Since the tree was kind of hanging over into the neighbor's yard over his sheds, they had to use ropes to guide the tree sections down to the ground as they took it down in sections. It was interesting to watch.

I finally sold my truck last night!!! Got way less than I hoped to originally, but at least it's out of my driveway now. And my new station wagon kicks total ass.

Can you take some videos of you revving up the grocery getter's engine? I just want to see the pedal action.

Kthx.

I'll get right on that. This wagon is actually louder than my truck. I need some quieter mufflers because it's ruining the sleeper look. Wagon + 350 + 3.73 posi = WIN.
