Heat in my car abruptly stops working 2 days ago. Waited a day. Car took forever to warm up then when it did it spiked. Antifreeze/coolant problem. Great. Take it in.

Water pump leaking, antifreeze all over my engine, in the oil pan, thermostat and housing busted basically requiring a disassembling the front half of my engine.

New thermostat and housing, water pump, antifreeze flush and refill, oil change, screws and bolts and labor.

$1600

I loved the old days when you could do that job on a mid 80 through mid 90's car for under $100.

One of the hardest auto repairs I've done was replacing the water pump on my 91 Escort. Took like 8 hours just because the thing was so hard to get to. You actually had to unbolt the engine mount on one side and jack the engine up an inch or so to get the damn thing out. So much labor for a relatively cheap part, and something that you know is going to wear out eventually. Great engineering Ford, thanks.

I have no doubt about $800 of that is labor. I typically have a good buddy of mine do all my car stuff for me but he's out of town so getting hosed by a car repair place was about my only option. I like this place though they've seemed decent in the past.

Labor isn't cheap anymore. Especially if they do a good job and they'll stand behind it.

And as big d note pointed out- its on the books for an 8.1 hour job the guy said. Ouch.

Picked up the car today, admittedly with a stagger to my walk. Everything looks good so I GUESS it was worth it. Really didn't have a choice; had to get done :?

Still trying to buy some weed. Snow is melted, I have plenty of money, but my drug-dealers are being lazy. Should I call the Better Business Bureau on them?

almost typed in "++" to facebook...then realized, not everyone is as big of a nerd as me, you, and all of us here.
proceeded to type in "++" to google to see what i got, just out of curiosity.
to my dismay NOTHING was returned.
i am thoroughly disappointed.

also, i dont remember the last time i did a google search and had absolutely no hits without punching random characters on the keyboard. am i missing something? i did it three times. if not, i am as disappointed as stated above...thoroughly.

Damn keyboard on the desktop on the fritz. Find replacement keyboard in the closet, but it's the old-style AT connector and the desktop takes PS/2. Dig a little more and find adapter - YAY! Then realize it is to put a PS/2 keyboard on a AT desktop. Dammit!

Why the $%^& are the Men's Ice Hockey games relegated to 2nd network coverage?

It's not enough ice hockey gets totally shafted by every sports coverage station in the country, they're getting axed when they are the only mainstream sport in the winter olympics?

Total and complete horse$hit.

Had to buy new air filters for our geothermal water furnace.
They're big... 30x36x2... and they don't sell them around here, we have to either special order them or buy them online.
They ended up costing $100 for a set of 4 after shipping.
That's the best price I could find.

Ugh.

Got mine on Amazon. Cheapest place...but not be a lot.

And I'm glad water softener salt is cheap. I just bought 240 lbs. of salt for our water softener. I added 120 lbs and have 120 lbs. more on the shelf, ready to add in the coming months.

Do you have a water softener? If so, what is your water hardness set to? Bond-Madison Water Co. told me yesterday that we have 12-14 grains per gallon hardness, which on most charts is hard to very hard water, so that's what I set the water softener to yesterday (changed it from 10 to 14) and that's what the instructions say. The settings go all the way up to 150, which sounds ridiculous. I wouldn't want to encounter water that needed the softener set to 150.
Anyway, I'm not seeing what I would call "soft water" coming out of the faucets yet. Maybe it needs to regenerate, which it will do in about a week. I dunno.

Can't use a water softener on a septic... it kills the bacteria.

I know I didn't get my filters off Amazon, but they had custom make them. They screwed up the first order by a half inch so those were free (still going to use them) and I got another box of 6.

They're definitely not cheap by any means though.

Actually, that isn't true.

I found similar answers on numerous different sites.

Your filters are custom made?? Dare I ask how much they cost?

Interesting. The guys that installed my septic said I couldn't get one. (I DID want one.)

I apparently paid $140 for 6 filters.

Apparently, that was the thinking of a lot of people...but the studies that were done said water softeners do not harm a septic system and in some cases they can help it.
When you mentioned that, I was pissed. I thought either the septic guys, my plumber, or my builder dropped the ball on the whole water softener/septic thing. But then I did the research and I calmed down a bit.

Yeah, about the same price as mine.
Our filters are 2x30x36. Big suckers.
Got 'em in the mail today. Only took a few days to get here.
