DVD Upscalers

I just got a Samsung 1080P7 DVD player. My question is: Should I be seeing a dramatic difference in pic quality when I upscale to 720p? My TV is a Sony Bravia 40" (720p native). Honestly I can't tell a bit of difference. Of course I am using a good quality HDMI cable, but there is no visible improvement that my eyes (which are pretty discerning) can see.

Thoughts?

If your TV already had a good upscaler then no.

Even if it doesn't have a good upscaler, you still won't see that big of a difference.

There is only so much you can do. The source is 480p and nothing is going to change that.

What I meant was that the TV was a waste of money. I mean, what a pile of junk.

My understanding of upscaling is that how a standard def DVD upscales is dependent upon how it was originally authored, but beyond that, I got nothing.

That makes sense because Pixar films look stunning even at 480p, while older DVD's that I have look crappy no matter what.
