This one I thought was really interesting. A good friend of mine is a walk-on at SLU right now. He says the article is extremely accurate. Interesting read.

Pat Forde at ESPN on how Majerus spoke his mind about abortion and stem-cell research.

Now if only he can make headlines for WINNING.

Rick Majerus is the man. I love what he said, and I love how he didn't cower in a corner when it became headline material. Stand up for what you believe in. If you don't dig his opinion, don't listen.

He's the anti-Bob Knight, which is a great thing, IMO.

I dont have any problems with him voicing a belief either.

I can see where Burke is coming from but instead of condemning somebody from half way across the country, come back and talk to the guy in person. Majerus is a leader at SLU, if not in fact than by his image, and Burke should at least address him personally. All Burke did was draw nationwide attention to the fact that a well known sports icon has these sort of beliefs. I think it was a stupid decision and could have been handled better. If his plan was to disgrace Majerus and discount his opinion then it completely backfired. I also don't think Burke has any business interfering with the University either.

There is nothing wrong with Majerus having those opinions. MAYBE he could have thought more about commenting on television, but I would never tell him not to have said those things or to apologize for saying them. I'm glad he hasn't backed down.

"The first time, [Utah was] recruiting me, and after the game I went down to the [Utes'] locker room," says Jeff Johnsen, who signed with Utah in 1996. "His hair's everywhere and his sweater's off and he's just drenched, and he's eating a whole pizza in front of me and he's like, 'You want any?' I grab a piece, and then he starts undressing and gets in the shower and is still talking to me. It was funny. It was weird. How many grown, fat, naked men do you see when you're a high school kid?"

Another player remembers Majerus calling him up to his hotel room on various occasions, and "he'd answer the door in his towel and I'd come in and the towel would fall off and it was like nothing had happened. He'd just be standing there buck naked. One year he had this lower-back injury, and he would have the trainer massage it with ultrasound. But instead of just lowering his pants a little bit, Majerus would pull his pants down to his ankles and sit in a chair and coach us. Sometimes he'd be like, 'Guys, bring it in, take a knee.' We'd come in, and we're just like, No way this is happening."

As a Catholic myself, I have way too many conflicting opinions on this whole situation. With both sides.

Bottom line. Burke needs to stop being such a prick and Majerus needs to remember that he's a Catholic, employed by a Catholic school.
