Best band from each state

Music magazines are always doing stupid lists that I never agree with, so I thought why not make our own stupid list to argue over? So, feel free to nominate the best band from each US state and argue about which band is most deserving. There are only a few rules:

1. Let's stick to bands, not solo artists (that could be another list).
2. I'm thinking this will lean more towards rock bands, but I'm open to any kind of music.
3. "Best" is up to your own interpretation. It could mean most talented, most commercially successful, or just the band you like best.
4. What state a band is "from" is open to interpretation too. Generally this will be the state that most of the members of the band are from or the state where the band was formed.
5. If we can't agree on the best band from a particular state, then I'll make the editorial choice for the list.

I'll edit this original post with the official list and update it as we go along. Some states I'm sure will have a lot of bands to argue over, whereas there are some states that I'm not sure if they have any good bands. Idaho? North Dakota?

Mellanby_equals_grit wrote:California- The Doors I was thinking The Beach Boys or Creedence for CA, but there's so many to choose from
Louisiana- Pantera (suppose this could be Texas too) I always think of them as a Dallas band. I think COC or Down would be better for Louisiana
Washington- Alice in Chains ((Frank) nirvana)So many choices here. AIC is amazing, but I would give consideration to Soundgarden and Pearl Jam too.
Florida- Jimmy BuffettI would consider him to be a solo artist, not a band

Soundgarden and PJ are fine, but AiC was far and away the most amazing thing to come out of grunge IMO.

There are probably enough Clutch fans on the board that they should carry Maryland.
Delaware - George Thoroughgood and the Destroyers? Or would you consider him more as a solo artist? But is there anyone else from Delaware?
New York - probably lots of contenders here. What about the Ramones?

NY would definitely have to be The Ramones.

As for Florida, if we're not accepting Jimmy Buffett then I say screw that, I'm going to go with Jimmy Buffett AND the Coral Reefer Band. Buffett is the fukkin' man!

p.s. just to piss you guys off because I know no one in Missouri likes them, I'm going to go with Virginia's finest: Dave Matthews Band. I've only seen then 3X, but then again I'm long since removed from college, and they're really only for the college kids.

I just ran out to the store real fast and I'm listening to Radio Margaritaville's live feed of Jimmy's concert tonight up in Michigan. As many people know, Jimmy talks between every single song. I almost vomited when, after the first song of the set, he said he was thrilled to be in the home of the Stanley Cup champions and he'd trade 2 flip-flops for a red wings jersey. My respect for the man just went down .1%. But since he's still the fukkin man I'll cut him a break.
