Honestly, if I'm on a 2 day float trip in the late spring to early fall, I have no desire to try and pound Oatmeal Stouts, IPA's, and Belgian Blonde's for 6 hours straight.
Sometimes, I just want something that I can drink all day without A) getting blasted after 8 beers or B) feeling like I gained 40 pounds in a single sitting. For me, that's the niche that the Bud Lights of the world fill.

Well said.
And IMO, lighter beers are much more desirable after playing softball, hockey, etc...or even if you're out in the sun on a hot day. The last thing I want at times like those is a heavy, dark beer. :|
Don't get me wrong...I like some micro brews and other specialty beers as much as the next guy...just not all of the time.

i totally agree with the take on pounding drinkable beer for several hours.

the Schlafly Summer Kolsch is PERFECT for that.

I had the Ommegang Abbey Ale the other night.

Bought a pint + 9 ounce bottle from Whole Foods.

At 8.5 ABV, it gave me a solid buzz. Very nice product but not something I'd drink more than a few times a year.
