Braden Looper vs. Carlos Zambrano

Kyle Lohse vs. Ted Lilly

Todd Wellemeyer vs. Sean Marshall
Scouting the Cubs

• Chicago will activate ace Zambrano, who has had a strained right shoulder since June 19. Zambrano is unbeaten at Busch Stadium, going 3-0 in three starts with a 1.69 ERA and a .208 average against.

• The Cubs’ Aramis Ramirez and Reed Johnson returned to the lineup Thursday. Johnson, hitting .271, was on the DL with back spasms; Ramirez, with 14 home runs, was with his wife at the birth of their child.

• Former starter Kerry Wood is 4-1 with 21 saves in 25 close opportunities. His 2.38 ERA is spiced with 53 strikeouts in his first 412⁄3 innings as a closer.

Looper's numbers are pretty good during night games.
But his home numbers aren't as good as his road numbers.
However, he had a very good June.

Zambrano's numbers on the road aren't very good.
But his numbers at Busch in his career are good.
However, Zambrano had a poor June and is coming off of a stint on the DL.

I hate Zambrano. F'ing cocky-ass hothead.

Looks like it. We went to SD but they never came here and the last Cubs series was sans Edmonds.

Yeah, those calls were pretty bad. Both pitches were clearly outside.
What sucks is that those pitches were balls all night long...until the 9th.

Great finish to game #2 of the series. Wow.
Talk about a massive roller coaster ride of emotions. Geez.
- Pissed that the Cubs went up 2-0...again.
- Happy the Cardinals tied it up at 2-2 later on.
- Pissed that Ramirez hit a 2-run homer the next inning to put the Cubs up 4-2.
- Happy the Cardinals pulled within one and had 2nd & 3rd with nobody out in the 9th.
- Pissed that the Cardinals made two more outs and still had the tying run stuck at 3rd.
- Happy Ankiel smoked one to center to win the game with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th.

The Cardinals own Edmonds so far in this series...and I'm loving it.
He's 0 for 7 with 4 strikeouts... and the only time he has reached base in the series was on a walk on Saturday, and he was later thrown out at the plate on great throw and tag.

I popped on over to NSBB to see what cubs fans were saying... they're pretty upset at the ump for not calling Molina out on strikes.
Poor babies. They don't have a right to bitch after what happened to Glaus on Friday in the 9th.
FWIW, I didn't think Molina should have been called out. That pitch was a ball.
And not to be a homer, but Glaus should have walked twice in the 9th on Friday, but the ump called him out on two pitches clearly outside.

Just to be clear, the cubbies fans are whining about Molina's check swing which the 1st base ump said didn't go around. Pretty much everyone, but the 1st base ump, thinks Molina went around. Still - after the Glaus thing - call it even. :)

I was watching with a Cubs fan yesterday (my girlfriend's brother in law), and he was more upset with Edmonds being thrown out in the top of the 9th as opposed to the check swing call. I don't know if you remember, but Edmonds went first to third on a blooper to left on the play before he got thrown out. He put his head down and turned on what jets he had left. On the next play, when Ludwick caught a pop fly in right, Edmonds looked like he was running half speed and then instead of going THROUGH Yadi at the plate, he went AROUND him and was tagged out. I told him that apparently Edmonds still has some Cardinal in him.

I was pretty upset that La Russa didn't pinch run for Yadi in the 9th. It almost came back to bite him in the ass, but I'm glad it didn't! Looking forward to this afternoon's game...

Is today's game in HD? I was looking through my Directv guide and it shows the game on NBC, but it didn't have the little HD logo that I love so much. I am gonna guess it is since KSDK big thing is that they are in HD. If I can see Dianne Lane in HD, I should be able to see Cards Cubs in HD right???

Yeah, I guess I was thinking of something else.
His check swing was close...he probably gets punched out more times than not on that. But yeah, after how Glaus was screwed over the game before in the 9th, Cubs fans can't crab about it.

Tonight was the Cardinals worst pitching peformance of the season. I know some might say the 20-2 Phillies game was worse. There is a MAJOR difference. They Philllies blew out the Cards early in relatively few innings.

Tonight - the Cards let the Cubs leadoff batter score in 7 of 9 innings, usually lettting the leadoff hitter on base with NO OUTS. Meanwhile, the Cards lackluster offense only allowed 2 leadoff hitters on-base - Kennedy x2.]]

Where the F was the Cardinals offense?? 2-out singles and walks are POINTLESS if they don't lead to runs. Especially when your opponent is scoring lead off at-bats[/] in 7 of 9 innings. Worst pitching night for the Cards all season.
